    1. [Acadian-Cajun] Correction to Stephen White's Histoire de la Famille Boudrot -- Re: Jean-Baptiste Boudreau (1764-1852)
    2. Brenda Hebert
    3. On September 7, 2007 I sent the following e-mail to Mr. Stephen White: Mr. White: My name is Brenda Hébert. I grew up in Kankakee, Illinois where there was a large French-Canadian emigration in the mid-1800s. My great-grandmother was a Boudreau, and so was a great-great-great-grandmother. There was a discussion recently on the Quebec-Research list on Rootsweb about Jean-Baptiste Boudreau, son of Charles Boudreau & Madeleine Clouatre, who had married twice; first to Marie-Josèphe Landry and second to Marguerite Boissonneau. In your Histoire de la Famille Boudrot, Pg 130, you state: (76f) Jean-Baptiste n/b RG tr-Riv (Que)v 1764/18 oct 1767 (at) 3a (pr & mr Antoine Busiison & Marie-Rose LeBlanc); m1 RG l'Acadie 31 jan 1791 Marie-Josephe Landry (Simon-Joseph & Rose Cyr) (disp 4-4 cons); m2 RG l'Acadie 21 Feb 1803 Marguerite Boissonneau (Francois & Josette LeFebvre); Laboureur; s (selon B.L. Madden) cim Ste-Rose-de-Lima Kankakee IL In Betty Lou Madden's book Ancestors of Exzelia Elizabeth Boudreau, p. 206, she states: Jean Baptiste Boudreau, born 1766; first married 31 Jan 1791 at L'Acadie, Q.P., to Marie Landry, daughter of Joseph Landry and Rose Cyr. Marie died in 1802. Jean, a widower married 21 Feb 1803 to Marguerite Boissonneau, daughter of Francois Boissonneau and Josette Lefebvre of St. Constant. Jean was buried at St. Rose of Lima Church Cemetery, Kankakee, Illinois. Sources: Mariages de L'Acadie and St. Luc, pp. 19, 22, 88; Burial Records, St. Rose of Lima Church, Kankakee, Illinois, p. 70. I searched through the records I have on St. Rose of Lima Church. This past year the Kankakee Valley Genealogical Society (KVGS) published a transcription of the baptismal, marriage and burial records of St. Rose of Lima Church from 1855-1885. I did not find a burial record for a Jean, John, nor Jean-Baptiste Boudreau in that book. Norma Meier was the compiler of the book. I also checked the books I have on Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, which was the first French Church in Kankakee County -- there were no Jean Baptiste Boudreaus who fit who I was looking for there either. Kankakee County civil death records were not recorded until 1877, so I didn't find him there, either. And there were no headstones in Kankakee County that belonged to him (of course, many of the oldest headstones have since either disappeared, broken or disintegrated -- some were wooden). So, with all my sources on Kankakee County genealogy I was not able to find any proof of Jean-Baptiste being buried in Kankakee County, Illinois. I have a subscription to Ancestry.com and have access to the Drouin online images. I had been going through the Ste-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie images looking for Boudreau records. The gentleman on the Quebec-Research list who originally wrote asking about Jean-Baptiste said he had in his database "circa 1852" for the date Jean-Baptiste died, so I went back to Ste-Marguerite's images on Ancestry.com, and resolved to start with 1852. In the index there was a Sepulture for Jean-Baptiste on feuille 10 for that year, I found it, and this is what it states: Le dix neuf Avril mil huit cent cinquante deux nous Prete Curé soussigné avons inhumé dans la cimetière du lieu le corps de Jean Baptiste BOUDREAU décédé depuis trois jours à l'age de quatre vingt, dix ans, époux de Marguerite BOISSONNEAULT; presens Édouard REMILLARD et Léon DESAUBEAU? qui n'ont su signé. R. ROBERT, pte. So, that states that Jean-Baptiste died 16 Avril 1852, and was buried at Ste-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie on 19 Avril 1852. I can save and e-mail the image to you, if you would like to see it. I hope this helps! And please let me know if I can be of further assistance in the future. Brenda Hébert Last Friday (October 12, 2007) I received the following reply from Mr. Stephen White: Dear Ms. Hébert: Thank you very much for the correction you sent me regarding the date and place of death of Jean-Baptiste Boudreau in 1852. I greatly appreciate your taking the time to send this to me, with your detailed explanation of how you found it. If at any time you discover other erros in any of my publications, please do not hesitate to let me know about them. Sincerely yours, Stephen A. 3. Hello Cecil, You are right. I have added to my previous post at the Derouen board the three pages of the French language letter that goes with the inventory. Sorry for the omission. If you or anyone would like to make a text translation of the material, we could post it on the St Martin genweb, as well as here, for all to use. 3. Hello Martha Thank you for posting images of this record. It does not seem to be the record of Marguerite's emancipation; it does seem to be a copy of information about Jacque's estate presented by notary Jacques Briant in which the 8 children of Jacques Derouen and the spouses of the married daughters are presented as his inheritors. Certain values are presented that are owed/owing by the estate. The information in [.....] is my personal interpretation of the research data. Jean Dugas[1], born 5 May 1712, son of Abraham Dugas and Marie- Madeleine Landry, married 1734 Marie-Charlotte Godin[2], born 1715, daughter of Gabriel Godin and Andrée-Angélique Jeanne (Jasne). In the 12 August 1763 Halifax list of prisoners[3] is found: Jean Dugas, his wife, 8 children [Jean Dugas age 51 Marie-Charlotte Godin age 48 François age 23 Marie age 18 Rose age 14 Charles age 13 Michel age 11 Athanase age 10 Théodore age 5 Child age ?] Also in the 12 August 1763 Halifax list of prisoners[4] is found: Amable Robicho, his wife, 3 children [Amable Robichaud age 31 Anastasie Dugas, age 26 Henry age 4 Jean-Baptiste age 1 Child age ?] Anastasie Dugas, born 28 November 1738 [?][5], daughter of Jean Dugas and Marie-Charlotte Godin, married 1 July 1758 [?] Amable Robichaud, born 10 January 1732 [?], son of Joseph Robichaud[6] and Marie Forest [7]. Jean Dugas and his family came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard arriving in February 1765. On 4 April 1765, Jean signed the D’Autrive Compact[8]. Jean went to Attakapas and settled there where his wife, Marie-Charlotte Godin died 17 July 1765[9]. GAUDIN, Marie Charlotte wife of Jean Dugast d. 17 July 1765, bur. 18 July 1765 (SM Ch.: Slave Funeral Register v. 1, #6) GAUDIN, Marie Charlotte wife of Jean Duga d. 17 July 1765, bur. 18 July 1765 (SM Ch.: v. 1, p. 7 ) On 4 September 1765[10], Jean Dugas died leaving his children orphans. After his death, his orphans fled to Cabaanocé. DUGAS, Jean d. 4 September 1765, bur. 5 September 1765, date recorded: 6 September 1765. (SM. Ch.: Slave Funeral Register v. 1, # 19-A) DUGAS, Jean d. 4 September 1765, bur. 5 September 1765, date recorded: 6 September 1765. (SM. Ch.: v. 1, p, 11) In 9 April 1766 Cabaanocé Upper Coast census[11] (Judice’s Company) is found: François Dugas age 26 Rose, sister age 17 Charles age 16 nephew [sic brother] Michel age 14 [sic] nephew [sic brother] Athanase age 13 nephew [sic brother] Théodore age 8 nephew [sic brother] And next door is found: Aymable Robichaud age 36 Nastasie Dugas his wife age 27 Erié [Henry] son age 6 Jean-Baptiste son age 4 Marie daughter age 2 (Note: in another copy [French] of the census[12] is found: Nastasie Dugas, widow Robichaud age 27 Henry son age 6 Jean-Baptiste son age 6 Marie daughter age 2] And in a third copy [Spanish] of the census[13] is found: Amable Robichaud 1 militia man, 1 woman, 2 boys, 1 girl) It appears Amable Robichaud died around 9 April 1766. François Dugas married 28 June 1768[14] Marguerite Babin, born 1749, daughter of Joseph Babin[15] and Anne Theriot[16]. Her family had been imprisoned in Maryland. In 14 September 1769 Cabaanocé Upper Coast census[17] is found: Family # 53 Atanaze Dugas age 18 Family #54 François Dugas age 28 Margueritte Babain, wife age 20 Family #55 Charles Dugas age 19 Michel Dugas age 12 Théodore Dugas age 9 Roze Dugas age 20 Family #56 Nastazie Dugas widow Robichaud age 31 Henry Robichaud son age 8 Jean Baptiste son age 6 Louis Ozene [Usebe] son age 2 After the 14 September 1769 census and before 1 August 1770 Ascension Parish census, Anastasie Dugas married Joseph Caissie dit Roger, son of Michel Caissie[18] and Rosalie Comeau[19]. In 1 August 1770 Ascension Parish census[20] is found: Family #24 Joseph Roger age 22 Anastasie Dugas wife age 32 Henry Robichaux stepson age 8 Jean Baptiste Robichaux stepson age 7 Louis Robichaux stepson age 3 It is highly probable that Amable Robichaud and his wife came to Louisiana with his father-in-law Jean Dugas in the Joseph Broussard group that arrived in February 1765 and fled with the survivors of the family of Jean Dugas to Cabaanocé in the Fall of 1765. Mixed results: The family of Nicolas Prevost dit Blondin m. 1745 Marie Francoise Quebedeau is located at Ft de Chartres, annotated as Nicola Blondin. The family of Gilles du Chemin m. Marie Jeanne Quebedeau is also located at Ft de Chartres. I see nothing that resembles Quebedeau or L'Espagnol in any of the areas. Needless to say, I'll have to keep digging. 3. See my Old-New Page at http://www.thecajuns.com/oldnew.htm for Numbers 1-3. Numbers 4-6 refers to the French who came into LA in late 1763/early 1764 from Alabama. Some went to Attakapas {#4]; some went to the current-day Washington [#5]and some to the area around current-day Opelousas [#6].
