    1. Re: [Acadian-Cajun] Marriage of Pierre ARSENEAU & Pelagie BABIN
    2. I agree with Cecil that there may be a mistake in the Baton Rouge Diocese record, especially as there is no entry under the bride's surname. It is in the Baton Rouge Diocese, CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS, vol. 2, p. 27, transcribed as: Pedro [ARCENEAUX] (Pedro & Maria Gode) m. 6 Apr. 1786, Pelagia BABE (Santiago & Margarita Landri of LaFourche) wit. Josef Bursua, Francisca Saba (SJA-2, 2) It is pretty simple to send for a photocopy of the actual register entry from the diocesan archives, but they now limit you to five at a time, and charge $10 apiece. I am awaiting another 5 right now, and have promised myself in the future to limit myself to direct ancestors. Pierre ARSENEAU is only the brother of my ancestor Eusebe. I think it even more likely that there was an annulment of that first marriage, before each of the couple married again just over a year later. That is the conclusion reached by Stephen A. White (and others), citing the civil register of St. James Parish. Would anyone with access to the courthouse there be willing to check the records from Apr 1786 to about May 1787 for an annulment? Pelagie BABIN was only age 14 or 15 at the time of the first marriage. Her father had died four months earlier, and the witnesses were not close relatives, so perhaps she did not have permission. I believe her mother Marguerite LANDRY is the one who died in 1806 with this entry: Marguerite LANDRY, age 56 years, widow of Joseph MALOUIN, was buried 25 Mar 1806 (SJA-4, 28). Hoping for more documentation. Karen Theriot Reader _KATheriot@aol.com_ (mailto:KATheriot@aol.com) ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    3. Roger, As you know, Rose, a widow, had been in New Orleans "for several months" when she entered the Convent in August 1765. This indicates that she arrived in May 1765 with the 2nd group from Halifax who had also gone to St. Domingue. So Raphael and the children apparently died before May 1765. 3. I did have him under wrong parents, but someone straightened me out. I'm so glad you told me about the daughter, Rose. Seems I remember reading that somewhere, but never dreamed I would be using that information. Thank you. 3. Simon LeBlanc was my 5th great-granduncle. Marguerite Guilbeaux was his second wife. Based upon his age at death, some incorrectly assumed that he was the sonof Antoine LeBlanc and Marie Babin; however, he was the son of Rene LeBlanc and Anne Theriot. 1. [Acadian-Cajun] Marriage of Pierre ARSENEAU & Pelagie BABIN
    2. I have a mystery, and would like help solving it. Pierre ARSENEAU married Pelagie BABIN in St. James Parish, Louisiana on 6 Apr 1786, recorded as (SJA-2, 2) in the Baton Rouge Diocese, CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS, vol. 2, p. 27. There is no corresponding entry for the bride, however. It is transcribed as: Pedro [ARCENEAUX] (Pedro & Maria Gode) m. 6 Apr. 1786, Pelagia BABE (Santiago & Margarita Landri of LaFouche) wit. Josef Bursua, Francisca Saba (SJA-2, 2) The very next entry in vol. 2, p. 27 has: Pedro (parents not given) m. 24 Apr. 1787, Angela BURSUA (parents not given) wit. Miguel Gode, Eleonor Presan (SJA-2, 3) It gets even more interesting when under BABIN on p. 54 we read: Pelagia (parents not given) m. 18 June 1787, Josef RICHAR (parents not given) wit. Josef Arseno, Marta Richar of this Parish (SJA-2, 3) Pierre was the son of another Pierre ARSENEAU & Marie Joseph GODIN dit Lincour, born about 1765 probably in Louisiana. His mother had remarried Basile PREJEAN. Pelgie was born about 1771, the daughter of Jean Jacques BABIN & Marguerite LANDRY, also apparently remarried to a Joseph MALOUIN. What happened to the first marriage of Pierre & Pelagie? There were apparently no children, and both remarried just over a year later, recorded on the same page at St. James Church! Could it be a mistaken entry? Karen Theriot Reader _KATheriot@aol.com_ (mailto:KATheriot@aol.com) ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    1. [Acadian-Cajun] Jeanne Prevost (Nicolas and Marie Francoise Quebedeau)
    2. neal hebert
    3. Cousins, I'd appreciate any comments on my reconstruction of the following lineages. I believe it's the first time I've thrown it out for public scrutiny, so be gentle lol. I'm aware (as Stanley posted) that Jeanne Prevost, the daughter of Nicolas PREVOST dit Blondin and Marie Francoise QUEBEDEAU, married a Ferdinand Pradie in New Orleans. My research indicates she gave birth to two children, possibly by different fathers, prior to this marriage. It's a bit drawn out; my apologies. Although I do not descend from Marie Louis PREVOST, she is important in identifying the mother of Louis COLLET, who is an ancestor of mine. Louis, by the way, married a QUEBEDEAU which is my link to Charles QUEBEDEAU whose ancestry has been discussed over the last couple of days. Marie Louise PREVOST was baptized 18 Jul 1778 in the Attakapas District, the daughter of Jeanne PREVOST. Her father is never listed. She married 28 Jan. 1799 Francois GAUTHIER of Montalban, province of Languedoc, France. Francois died 22 Feb 1813. * PREVOST, Marie Louise (Jeanne PREVOT) bt. 18 July 1778 Spons: Augustin FLAMANT & Demelle Louise DECLOUET. Fr. Fr. Gabriel ISABEY (SM Ch.: v.4, #811) Francois GAUTHIER and Marie Louise PREVOST had the following children. Of interest is at the marriages or deaths of these children Marie Louise PREVOST is listed as Lise/Elise GREVEMBERG, possibly indicating her father was a GREVEMBERG: 1) Raymonde Josette b. 11 Dec 1799 * GAUTHIER, Raymond (Francois GAUTIER - of Montalban, province of Languedoc, France & Marie Louise PROVOT - of this parish) b. 11 Dec. 1799, bt. 1 June 1800 Pats: Antoine GAUTIER & Marguerite SIMIEN; Mats: --- & Jeane PROVOST; Spons: Nicolas PROVOST & Josephe NEZAT. Fr. Marcel BORELLA (SM Ch.: v.4, #1743) ** Louis COLLET identified at Celeste's marriage as uncle of Francois and Marie's children. 5) Emilie b. 12 May 1809 * GAUTHIER, Emilie (Francois - of Montaubaum sur Garonne & Louise PROVOST) b. 12 May 1809, bt. 14 Oct. 1810 Pats: Antoine GAUTIER & Marguerite SIMIER; Mats: --- & Jeanne PROVOST - of Illinois; Spons: Louis PROVOST & Louise BARRE. Fr. Gabriel ISABEY (SM Ch.: v.6, #999) ** Jeanne PROVOST identified as "of Illinois" ** Louis PROVOST is a sponsor (brother of Jeanne) * GAUTHIER, Emilite - native of this parish (minor daughter of Francois & Elise GREVEMBERG) m. 25 Sept. 1827 Edouard Edmond DELHOMME - native of this parish (major son of Alexandre & Felicite PRADIE) Wits: Auguste NEZAT, Baptiste GUIDROZ, Daniel ZERINGUE fils, Cyrille THIBODEAUX, Cesaire NEZAT. Fr. Marcel BORELLA (SM Ch.: v.7, #64) I can't explain why it's Marie Louise PREVOST at the births of the children, and it's Lise/Elise GREVEMBERG at their marriages or death other than possibly she was acknowledged later by her father. I do believe strongly that based on the father's name being Francois in every instance and four of five children sharing names that Marie Louise and Lise/Elise are the same person. Nicolas PREVOST is identified as Marie Louise's uncle at her marriage, which would be the son of Nicolas PREVOST dit Blondin and Marie Francoise QUEBEDEAU. (The other PREVOST family in the area, Joseph PREVOST dit COLLET, had no son named Nicolas). That her mother, Jeanne PREVOST, is the daughter of Nicolas dit Blondin and Marie Francoise is established at the birth of grandaughter Emilie, where Jeanne is identified as "of Illinois". Now to Louis COLLET. Louis was baptized in 1787 at the age of 4, the son of Jeannette PREVOST and Joseph COLETTE: LOUIS - (natural son of Jeannette & Joseph COLETTE) bt. 28 March 1787 at age 4 yrs. Spons: Alexandre Efbeh(?) Felix Philippe Du CLOSLANGE & Felicite PREVOST - inhabitant of this parish. Fr. GEFFROTIN (SM Ch.: v.3, #172) ** Felicite PREVOST, daughter of Nicolas PREVOST dit Blondin and Marie Francoise QUEBEDEAU (Jeanne's sister), is a sponsor. Now scroll up to the marriage of Celeste GAUTHIER and Joseph WOOD in 1820, and you'll see Louis COLLET identified as the uncle of the bride. You'll also see that Antoine GAUTHIER died in 1826 at the home of Louis COLLET. My conclusion is that Louis is the (half) brother of Marie Louise PREVOST/Lise GREVEMBERG m. Francois GAUTHIER. Marie Louise is the granddaughter of Nicolas PREVOST dit Blondin and Marie Francoise QUEBEDEAU, as is Louis COLLET. I look forward to questions or comments thrown out there. This was a major roadblock for me until I stumbled across Marie Louise PREVOST's information. Thanks, Neal..... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 1. [Acadian-Cajun] Birthdate/Place for Marcelline THIBODEAU[X]
    2. Andy Scott
    3. Morning, In P.C. Morrison's"Generations Past to Present, p. 373, Family #3316 Marcelline is shown as the daughter of Jean Baptiste Pierre THIBODEAUX & Marie Rose DAMOURS [also spelled D'AMOURS] and this entry also reflects that she married Pierre Alexandre CHIASSON. This marriage is confirmed by [ASM-2, 238][DOBR, v.3, p. 821] In G.M. Braud, Acadians in Nantes, Family #408, p. 241 shows Jean Baptiste Pierre and Marie Rose DAMOUS as departing Nantes aboard the l'Amitie on 20 Aug 1785 without any children. This is what I call a "gap" family. Would anyone be able to verify #1, if Marcelline was -in fact- the daughter of Jean Baptiste Pierre & Marie Rose DAMOURS and #2, where was she born? Any help would be appreciated, Andy Scott
