When my grandfather Louis-Joseph Picard was born March 21 1867 , his mother, Irma Chenevert died shortly after he was born. His father Stanislas Picard married Irma's sister Louise Chenevert and from this second marriage there were 5 children born. I have some information on their son Etienne and a lot on their son Landry Picard, but I have very little information on: Marie-Lesida Picard bn December 28, 1873 Marie Zulma Picard bn August 05, 1879 Elodie Picard bn November 03, 1876 I recall having received a notice that the latest volume of the Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records has just recently been published. There has been a long time between the publication of the last volume. I have been patiently waiting for this volume to see if my maternal grandfather's siblings' marriages or deaths are listed. I would like to ask a favor. If anyone has the set of the Baton Rouge Diocese books, would you look to see what Picards are listed and send me this information. My local library is a little slow in getting newly published research books. Don Landry don2717@cox.net

Holding degrees from l'Université de Moncton, Mount Allison University, New York State University and the Sorbonne, Chiasson's career has ranged from director, playwright and journalist to professor, gallery director and arts curator. I'm trying to identify if any of the Scottish settlers in 1632 at Port Royal in Nova Scotia can be confirmed to have stay on after Nova Scotia was transferred back to French control in 1632. There are a few references that state that some of the Scottish settlers stayed and married into the French colonists who came. > As you may be aware Nova Scotia from 1621 to 1632 was under the control of the Scots and Sir William Alexander. > Does any one have any information about this? > > Phil
Deborah and List: I will try to answer some of the questions raised in this lengthy inquiry, since I come from the Breaux Bridge area and have an obvious interest. The main sources of information for this area are (1) "St. Martin Parish History", by Betty Pourciau, Curtis Media, 1985 [available at most South Louisiana parish libraries] and (2) "Southwest Louisiana Records-CD #101", by Donald J. Hebert, 2001(?) [available for sale]. ----- Original Message ----- | Anastasie GUIDRY, daughter of Pierre and Marguerite (peggy) MILLER, | married David REES, from Pennsylvania, 9 Jan 1805-St Martinville. The rest of the request deals with late 19th century questions, where church data stops, and research requires a variety of approaches, such as checking of Parish records, looking at contemporary newspapers, U.S. Census of 1900, cemetery records, etc. I hope this has been helpful--- Carl HUVAL Vicksburg, Mississippi U.S.A. Hi Carla, I have Firmin Fontenot's wife listed as Zelima Josephe David [and your right, many OTHER names]. Her Parents: Joseph Ignace David [or perhaps Deville] & Marie Françoise Saucier. ----- Marriage records for Joseph & Marie Francoise: WAKINE, Ignace - native of this parish (natural son of --- OAQUINE & Marie FRUGE) m. 4 July 1820 Françoise SAUCIER - native of this parish (minor daughter of Simon SOSIE & Emilie CHATELIN) Wits: Joseph Simon BELVEU [Bellevue FONTENOT], Antoine OAQUINE [perhaps WAKINE], Gabriel FONTENOT. Fr. Flavius Henri ROSSI (Opel.Ch.: v.1-B, p.357). SAUCIER, Françoise - native of this parish (minor daughter of Simon SOSIE & Emilie CHATELIN) m. 4 July 1820 Ignace WAKINE - native of this parish (natural son of --- OAQUINE & Marie FRUGE) Wits: Joseph Simon BELVEU [Bellevue FONTENOT], Antoine OAQUINE [perhaps WAKINE], Gabriel FONTENOT. Fr. Flavius Henri ROSSI (Opel.Ch.: v.1-B, p.357). I have found 9 children for Ignace & Francoise, of which their oldest is named Onesime. I have searched for other records on the "Onesime" on SWLR CD and there appears to be none. I strongly suspect that Onesime is probably Zelima Josephe \David/Daville\, who became the wife of Firmin Fontenot. New Brunswick artists to be given public money for Acadian celebrations http://www.cbc.ca/artsCanada/stories/acadia200803 Posted 2003-08-20 CBC News Online, with files from Phlis McGregor, The Arts Report HALIFAX - Artists in New Brunswick are being encouraged to apply for funding to develop works that commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first French settlement in North America. The anniversary arrives next year. In 1604, Samuel de Champlain started a settlement on St. Croix Island, near what is now Calais, Me. and St. Stephen, N.B. This represented the first attempt by France to colonize the territory called Acadia. Celebrations are planned in Canada, France and the United States. In preparation for the 400th anniversary, the New Brunswick Arts Board has received $100,000 from the provincial government. The money will be used to fund artistic projects that relate to the commemorative theme. Robert Barriault is the program officer of the New Brunswick Arts Board. "A lot of energy is being focused on the artistic or cultural community in New Brunswick, so funding is available from both the province of New Brunswick through organizations like our own, the New Brunswick Arts Board, or Heritage Canada to fund projects that will take place in 2004." Rather than awarding the cash as a separate initiative, funding will be distributed through the New Brunswick Arts Board's regular grant programs. "We're asking that artists who are applying for funding within the Arts Board programs write us and tell us about a program that meets the objective of the 1604-2004 program. So they should be geared to those celebrations," Barriault says. Artists must be New Brunswick residents and meet established criteria for existing funding programs. The New Brunswick Arts Board has five funding deadlines per year. The next deadline is September 1. For more arts news, listen to The Arts Report weekdays at 7:12 a.m., 8:12 a.m. and 5:55 p.m. on CBC Radio Two.
