    3. I don't know why the Godrey Library was contacted directly since the home page provides the information in this post. I do believe, however, that it offers an opportunity to open a discussion re "free" vs. "fair cost fees" for information. The Godfrey Library is, in my opinion, offering a very reasonably-priced service. There seems to be some who think that all genealogy research services should be provided "free" but this is not realistic. Professional historians and genealogists spend many years in research and a reasonable charge for access to information or costs for books, cds, etc. is not unreasonable. I was looking at paying about $300.00 annually just for some of the information provided by the Godrey Libray for $35.00. The Library has books in digital form that are unavailable at any cost elsewhere. By any measure, this is a fairly-priced service and we should be thankful that it is willing to provide this service. The WEB site for the Godfrey Library http://www.godfrey.org/ does not provide a definitive listing of the various Census available on-line. What is their coverage in the States and the respective counties/parishes?? The site gives the following statement: "The entire U.S. census and the U.S. census indexes from 1790 to 1820, 1860, 1870,1890, 1900 (9 states completed), 1910 and 1920 (35 states completed)." And this is unsatisfactory in terms of explaining their coverage; perhaps someone can provide additional details to the list--- As stated on our web site, the entire census, 1790-1930, (what is left of the 1890) is available for viewing and researching as digital images, that is every state (which includes every county, parish and town), and every year. When you are viewing the census, it is just a though you are viewing the actual census on microfilm. There is s complete index (heads only) for every state for the years 1790-1820, 1860, 1870, 1890 and 1910. For the year 1920, all states are indexed EXCEPT AK, HI, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VY, VA, WI and WY. For the year 1900, the only states that are indexed at the present are AR, CA, FL, HI, IN, KS, MD, NY, OH, PA, TX, UT, WA, and WI. New indexes are being added on a monthly basis and will eventually be complete. I am not sure what more is needed to make our web site explanation more satisfactory, but hopefully, it is covered here. If not, I ask anyone to feel free to e-mail me specific questions and I will be happy to answer them as quickly as possible. -- Nancy Doane, Director Godfrey Memorial Library 134 Newfield Street Middletown, CT 06457 phone: 860-346-4375 fax: 860-347-9874 email: ndoane@godfrey.org web site: http://www.godfrey.org ==== ACADIAN-CAJUN Mailing List ==== http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.ethnic.acadian -cajun This is a link to the Acadian-Cajun Message Board at RootsWeb. ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    3. Thanks, Roger I was hoping you would respond to my message. I know that you have done a great deal of research on the early arrival to Louisiana [to include this family]. Before posting, I had gone over all of your postings of this family, and also all of the possible sources that I have on hand concerning this family, and could not come up with one instance that mentioned an "Isabelle" being a sister to Anne, either. Your input is much appreciated! Thanks, Rita -----Original Message----- From: Roger A. Came to Louisiasna with Joseph Broussard, arriving in February 1765. Madeleine Broussard, b. ca 1733, probably daughter of Alexandre Broussard & Marguerite Thibodeau, married first: ca 1752 Jean-Baptiste Landry and married second: ca 1760 Olivier Thibodeau. Died 16 May 1765 in Attakapas, Louisiana. Marie [Thibodeau], b. ca 1761, daughter of Olivier Thibodeau & Madeleine Broussard. Married 10 January 1779 Joseph Saulnier. Theodore [Thibodeau], b. ca 1761, son of Olivier Thibodeau & Madeleine Broussard. Married 2 July 1782 Marie-Louise Saulnier. Isabelle Landry Step-Daughter, b. ca 1748?, possibly daughter of Jean-Baptiste Landry & Madeleine Broussard. Anne Landry Step-Daughter, b. 13 Sep 1753, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Landry & Madeleine Brousssard. Married 18 Jul 1772 Joseph Doucet. Amand Thibodeau Brother, b. 18 Jan 1734, son of Charles Thibodeau & Francoise Comeau and brother of Olivier. There is some question whether there was an Isabelle Landry, sister of Anne, but I have found no evidence to indicate that she came to Louisiana and she certainly did not come with the Olivier Thibodeau family. In the list of prisoners in Halifax 12 Aug 1763 is: Aulivie Tibeaudeau, wife, three children. Olivier Thibodeau age 31 Madeleine Broussard, wife, age 30 Marie Thibodeau, age 2 Theodore Thibodeau, age 2 Anne Landry, age 10 In the 25 Apr 1766 Attakapas census is listed: Olivier Thibodau, 1 boy, two girls Olivier Thibodeau age 34, widower Theodore Thibodeau age 5 Marie Thibodeau age 5 Anne Landry Step-Daughter age 12 Ca. 1768, Olivier married Agnes Brun, widow of Paul Doucet. In the 1769 Attakapas census is found: Ollivier Tibodeau age 35 (sic) His wife [Agnes Brun age 26] Anne daughter (sic) [Landry] age 15 Theodor son age 8 Marie daughter age 8 Anne daughter (sic) [Doucet] age 5 As can be seen, there is no indication of an Isabelle Landry with the Olivier Thibodeau family from 12 August 1763 on. If there was an Isabelle Landry, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Landry and Madeleine Broussard, she either died before 1763 (before age 15) or was separated from her mother in imprisonment. In any case, she does not seem to have come to Louisiana and should not have been listed on the Wall of Names with the Olivier Thibodeau family. Roger A.
