The succession documents of Catherine Comeau provide a clue to her ancestry. Eileen Behram's translation and abstraction of the few surviving St James Parish colonial civil records shows that Catherine Comeau, widow Guilbeaux, died 16 Mar 1782 and in her will she provides for her "little nephew", Francois Comeau. I am trying to find out what is proven regarding my ancestor, Jean-Pierre Clement. What I know is that he married in Assumption Parish, LA, on August 27, 1810 to Adelaide De L'Aune, daughter of Jean De L'Aune and Marianne Part, and died ca. 1840. Some people have claimed that Jean-Pierre was the son of Jean Vincent dit Clement and Jeanne Baste, who married in St. Servan, France, on June 25, 1765. I have found Jean and Jeanne's marriage record, but no evidence that their child was the Jean-Pierre Clement who emigrated to Louisiana and married Adelaide. If anyone has documentation linking Jean-Pierre Clement to Jean Vincent dit Clement and Jeanne Baste, please let me know! I am happy to share what I have on this line. cheers, Gordon Bonnet Trumansburg NY
Not sure how the Serreau name connects w/the LePoupet name--suggestions are welcomed. Thank you. Trev He and another Acadian named Petitpas, with their families, were prisoners in Boston in 1692; and the English governor sent them, with two French deserters, to capture Baron De St. Castine, at Penobscot, keeping their families as hostages. They revealed the plan and gave up the deserters, (b) and subsequently received from the French authorities a grant of money for their services. St. Aubin probably went to France in 1703, and hence was absent at the time of Church's visit. He is afterwards heard of at Port Royal, where in 1705 he seems to have died in poverty, (c) caused doubtless, by his losses through Church's expedition. A son of his, Louis Simon de St. Aubin, le Poupet, Chevalier de la Boularderie, in 1702 married Magdalaine Melancon, and was Captain of a company at the defense at Port Royal against the British in 1707.

Joseph Guilbeau dit L'Officier, born in 1710 and married to Madeleine Michel, died in 1765 (White "DICTIONNNAIRE" p. 782). Joseph Guilbeau, born ca 1731, was the son of Charles Guilbeau & Marie-Anne Comeau (parents in White "DICTIONNAIRE" p. 781). In the 1766 Cabanocey census, he is listed alone, age 35. On 2 October 1767, he married Catherine Comeau (Bourgeois "CABANOCEY" p. 171). I have been unable to determine the parents of Catherine. Hi to all, My name is Keith LeBouef. I'm cajun and was born and raised in Houma La. I now live in Titusville Fl. for the last 13 years or so. I am now involved with a Canadian, French genealogy society in Melbourne, Fl. This is where I finally got to meet in person my first Acadian Cousins and vise versa, I'm the first cajun for them to meet with an exception of one or two. Last month I saw a video called Acadie Liberte' and really enjoyed it. It was of the Acadians that settled Acadie and farmed the land for their families and then of the expulsion all the way to when they made it to La. The Group wants me to do a presentation on our cajun heritage. A proud cajun that I am said I'll be honored to do one even though I never done a thing like this before, but figured I have enough memories and all kinds of stories to share of our way of life that i think I'll do alright. I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction to find some videos that could possibly start where t! he other left off and that was the Acadians arriving in La. from England. It would be great to be able to present a video from when the Acaidians arrived and settled in Acadiana to present day life in Cajun Country. Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated, Keith LeBouef PS I'm gonna read the Cajun Night Before Christmas story at the Christmas party next Monday. I'm excited about it as it will be my first time reading it to a group of people. With my accent it should prove to bon temp, can't wait.
Has the schedule of events for the Landry Family Reunion been finalized? I need to know the schedule in order to plan my trip to Windsor. Don Landry don2717@cox.net
Hi Keith... I have the video "Acadie Liberté" along with another (both purchased this summer in Grand Pré) The title of the second one is "Against the Tide... The Story of the Cajun People of Louisiana". They are both wonderful videos. Alice Hi to all, My name is Keith LeBouef. I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction to find some videos that could possibly start where t! he other left off and that was the Acadians arriving in La. from England.
We're in the middle of December right now, preparing for the holidays, but take a moment to remember... Right around now, in 1758, some time between December 10 and December 15, during the Acadian expulsion of Prince Edward Island, some 700 Acadians died when their decrepit and overcrowded ships sank crossing the Atlantic for France. Sir Arthur Doughty, Canada's first Dominion Archivist and Keeper of the Public Records, wrote about this some time after 1904: "The largest of these transports was the Duke William; another was named the Violet.... Nine transports sailed in consort, but were soon caught in a violent tempest and scattered. On December 10 the Duke William came upon the Violet in a sinking condition; and notwithstanding all efforts at rescue, the Violet went down with nearly four hundred souls. Meanwhile the Duke William herself had sprung a leak. For a time she was kept afloat by empty casks in the hold, but presently it became evident that the ship was doomed...an explosion occurred and the Duke William went down, taking three hundred persons to a watery grave Je me souviens... -- Scott Michaud http://MichaudBarn.com _________________________________________________________________ Winterize your home with tips from MSN House & Home. http://special.msn.com/home/warmhome.armx
