I'm hearing from others that lists2 mail is going thru on other lists. Listowners say they believe it was because so many AOL users let them them know they wanted their RootsWeb lists back. Thank you to all that took the time to write, they heard you. margy

    3. Hi, FYI, AOL has blocked RootsWeb's server lists2 that we are on. I have notified all our bouncers on list mode. When the digest comes out I'll get notify them. They can send list mail but can not receive it. A notice should be up soon at the help desk about it. If a message to the list comes from an AOL user in the next day or so you need to make sure the reply also goes to them in addition to the list. Hit reply all. I know we try to delete the person's address when replying to the list so they don't receive two copies. Hopefully this will be straightened out soon. Thanks Margy

    1. [ACADIAN-CAJUN] name mispelling on censuses in LA... few examples.
    2. Hey all, Happy New year. Just wanted to drop a quik note for those searching the census. I know most of you already have the experience and knack for reading censuses but for myself and other novices, I thought I would give an example of some of the name spelling variations that I have come accross. Most recent I notice that Ancestry.com and other indexes have the last name "BRAUD" as "BRAND" as most of you know in various handwritings, it would be easy for a "u" to look like a "n." Also, I have found one of my family names to be spelled MANY ways, it is "KIFF," but a french pronunciation of the name is (keef) therefore, I have found this name spelled as such; Keef, Keeth, Keiffe, etc.... I have also discovered that my "BARROSSE" surname must have sounded like "Burrows" to census takers..... haha Well, guess it just makes searching even more fun. Yea, well not so much fun, I tell ya. I sure as heck would LOVE if anyone had some ideas how I can find my "BOUTERIE/Boutary/Bouteri" family on the censuses. I am missing 1870, 1880; they were in Thibodaux, therefore I have looked mainly in Lafourche Parish, but also in the entire state, so am stuck. I have spelled the name MANY MANY different ways, also tried using "V" instead of "B" at the beginning of the name. I also tried "wildcard" searches, and even searches using the 1st names only. I am beginning to wonder if maybe by some chance they were recorded as "Boudrau" or some other name entirely different? any ideas, clues, etc? Goodluck in the new year! cheers, peace and happiness to all. brian w williams n' awlins PS. Are there ANY ongoing Louisiana DNA studies going on at present? Anyone doing a DNA group project?

    3. Lahurre sometimes Layur Justine (Nicholas and Marguerite Saunnier) m 25 June 1805 Charles Theriot (Thomas and Agnes Daigle) of St James wit Jean-Baptiste Bourgeois; Pierre Dupuis; Etienne Therriot (ASC-2,119) DOBR v 2 p 472-473, 813 They may then appear in Hebert Southwest with her name as LaBauve. I wonder if it is same couple? I have seen Charles [Pierre] as born 1785 St James Parish. It is not in DOBR I wonder if he was on "7 ships". Does anyone have anything more on her parents? Their daughter marries Louis Valliere Babineaux 20 jun 1825. This is the New Louisiana Governor's name line. Paul

    3. Hi again Jackie, There appears to be a discrepancy in the Bourg lineage between White and Red Drouin. It looks as though Drouin merged 2 generations of Abraham's and Pierre's. I've included data from both sources, although my bet would be that White's data is more accurate, based on his researching/referencing.
