My records show that Brigette Landry, bn ca 1750 who married Charles Trahan son of Pierre Trahan and Magdeleine Comeaux was the daughter of Pierre Alexandre Landry and Marguerite Forest and that she married Etienne Landry at Donaldsonville on May 12, 1776 and the couple had 5 children Etienne died sometime Bef. March 29, 1787 she married (2) Jean Guzman and had a son Bartolome Gusman
It should read Jean Guedry died before the 1 August 1770 census of Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Actually, he died before 2 February 1768. In the 7 July 1763 census of Port Tobacco, MD is found (Jehn p. 152): Jean Gaidris (Guedry), Anne Gaidris (Dupuis) his wife, Firmin Gaidris, Magdelaine Gadris, Jean Gaidris, Monique Gaidris. On a 2 February 1768 list of Acdadian families who came to Louisiana to settle at St. Louis de Natchez is found (Voorhies p. 436): Ana De Pui, widow age 35 Fermin Lledri, son age 16 Juan Bte., son age 2 Magdalena, daughter age 14 Monica, daughter age 6 Isabel, daughter age 3 In the 1 August 1770 census of Ascension Parish is found (Robichaux p. 7): Anne Dupuis, widow Guedry age 40 Firmain Guedry, her son age 18 Jean Guedry idem age 8 Magdelaine Guedry, her daughter age 16 Monique Guedry idem age 6 The Auguatin Guedry that came to Louisiana in 1765 was not the father of the Jean Guedry above. There is no evidence his father ever came to Louisiana. The one who came to Louisiana in 1765 with Joseph Broussard was Joseph Augustin Guedry, son of Pierre Guedry (SW p. 772) and Marguerite Brassaud (SW p. 267). In the 1763 census of Port Royal (ANF, Col, G1 466, no. 34), he is listed alone as Augustin Guidry. Ca 1764, he married Theotiste Broussard, daughter? of Alexandre Broussard and Marguerite Thibodeau. They came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard where on 5 April 1765, Joseph Guidry received a receipt for Canadian money from Maxent. They moved to Attakapas with Broussard where Theotiste Broussard, wife of Augustin Guedry, died 27 July 1765 (Hebert v. 1A pp. 149-150). In the 1766 census of Attakapas is listed Joseph Guidry age 33. After the census, he moved to Cabanocey where on 19 May 1767, he married Elizabeth Comeau (Bourgeois p. 171). Joseph and Elizabeth are listed in the 1777 census of St. James Parish. Roger A. I'm looking for any information on the Jolibois family of Canada and Louisiana. I descend from Philippe Jolibois, b. ca. 1770 (ballpark), m. January 14, 1793 to Marie Louise Charpentier in St. James Parish, Louisiana. On his marriage certificate, he lists his parents as "Philippe Courtois and Marie Rosa of Montreal." I took this to mean that he was Courtois dit Jolibois; and with a little digging I found that there _was_ a Rosa family in Montreal, descended from Barthelemi Rosa of Genoa, Italy. Interesting circumstantial connection is that Philippe named his son Barthelemi Jolibois. I have never been able to place any Philippe Courtois and Marie Rosa among the known Courtois and Rosa families in Montreal, however. And the confusion got even worse when I started looking at the baptismal certificates for Philippe Jolibois' children. Two of them list the grandparents. Both certificates correctly list the maternal grandparents of the child (i.e. Marie Louise Charpentier's parents) as Pierre Charpentier and Jeanne Moutard. However, they both list the paternal grandparents -- i.e. Philippe Jolibois' parents -- as Francois Jolibois and Ursule LeGrand of Montreal! Why would Philippe (or anyone else, for that matter) give himself one set of parents on his marriage certificate, and a completely different set of parents on his child's baptismal record three years later? The names aren't even similar, as if it were a transcription error on the part of the priest who recorded the documents. Francois Jolibois/Philippe Courtois; Ursule LeGrand/Marie Rosa. It's not even close. The only agreement is that they were from Montreal! I've been puzzling over this for some time, and the more I look at it, the weirder it seems. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how this could happen? (By the way -- I haven't been able to find a Francois Jolibois and Ursule LeGrand in the Montreal records, either.) Help?!?!?!? cheers, Gordon Bonnet Trumansburg NY

Hi, I copied the problem to half the AOL members on the list. Another half hasn't seen it yet. But yesterday RootsWeb was able to talk to AOL and things should be fixed soon. RootsWeb changed IP's a couple of days ago, so the route that AOL had "whitelisted" so RootsWeb could go though was no longer valid. They did not recognized RootsWeb mail and blacklisted it. The yellow box at the helpdesk has an explanation of the problem. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi The first paragraph refers to AOL. It was place there at the request of admins who had been referring people to the second story titled dns: 2004-01-27. The last paragraph explains what happened. AOL users are not the only ones affected but are by far the most visible group involved.
