Gang am I reading this correct or does anyone read it different? Paul Samantha, It looks like you have either a Non-Acadian Cormier or an Acadian family that stayed until slave revolt in Haiti. May have been with group that went to Cuba (& SC?) before coming to Louisiana. If I am reading these correctly, he was born in Haiti probably between 1788-1798. A minimal number of Acadian family names mentioned implies non-Acadian? And you thought it was going to be easy. Hello: I am compilimng a history of several villages in the Cape Chignecto area including Apple River. There was, in olden times, considerable dyked land there and on one marsh was an abandoned dyke which the old people (born ca 1860s-1870s) referred to as "the old French Dyke". A French map, ca 1740 shows Apple River as "Riviere aux pomes" (yes, pomes, not pommes). Recently I came across , this , from "Excerpts from the Nova Scotia Archives Regarding the Acadians, Governors Letter-Book, Annapolis 1719-1742, " Annapolis, Ap. 20, 1732 (signed.) L. Armstrong. Warrants for Preparing Material for Granary. Réné Le Blanc of Minas authorized to have in readiness timbers fit for building a "magazine or granary, 26 ft. broad 1. Below is note N. B. There was another permitt of the same tenor and date to Go to visit some ground lying at Apple River Given to Paul Le Blanc, John Le Blanc, (alias S. Lappin) James Tibau and Benjamin Le Blanc. " Is there a history of Acadians in Apple River? If so I would certainly be grateful to have it Thank you for any assistance given. You know about how our people and their lands were sold, cheap, to the United States, by Napoleon, and the US people came and began to teach our people to speak English. Well, further, an act was passed by pillars of democracy, founding fathers, in the US Congress in March 1804 to establish the Territory of Orleans, out of what had once been the French colony of Louisiana. The appointed Legislative Council for the Territory of Orleans met in May 1805, and divided the Territory of Orleans into 12 counties, the County of Lafourche being one of them, with some of the administrative boundary lines, with some exceptions, as they had existed during the French and Spanish colonial periods. In 1807, the Territorial Legislators, by then including some native born Louisianians, divided counties into parishes (the former administrative units based on church parishes), thereby keeping us different from the rest of the country. The County of Lafourche became the parishes of Assumption and Lafourche Interior, being divided equally by population into two parts. In 1812, the US Congress, effective April 30, 1812, approved to bring the Territory of Orleans as the State of Louisiana into the US, with parishes as existing, plus enlarged boundaries of the former Spanish West Florida parishes. Later, in 1822, the State Legislature, based on population increases on the lower bayous, created the boundaries of Terrebonne Parish and Lafourche Parish out of the former Lafourche Interior Parish. In short, the present Terrebonne area was in the French and Spanish colonial administrative units of Lafourche Des Chitamatches, then in the Territorial County of Lafourche, then the Territorial Parish of Lafourche Interior, then the State Parish of Lafourche Interior, then in 1822 as the Parish of Terrebonne, having quite recently gained ground by agreement with Lafourche, in the Grand Bois area. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alice Chauvin Brad shaw,SWAMPQUEEN;" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 24, 2006 2:57 PM Subject: Re: [ACADIAN-CAJUN] MISSISSIPPI: All Counties - Index ofWorldWar 1 REGISTRANTS > thank you very much. off hand do you recall when Terrebone parish came > into being. i know that it changed some parishes.. > alice > > http://members.tripod.com/~grambk11/bev1 > ALLONS EN LOUISIANE! > Swampqueen - Reine des Bayous! > LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULLER! > > CHER YOU GOT'A DANCE LIKE NOBODY'S WATCHIN' & LOVE LIKE IT AIN'T EVER > GONNA HURT! > > MOJO & The Bayou Gypsies' Official Website! > > http://www.redhotmojo.com/ > > > ==== ACADIAN-CAJUN Mailing List ==== > http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/ACADIAN-CAJUN.html > This is the link to our archives. Alice, you usually can find the records of the parish Selective Service Board in the parish courthouse, office of the Clerk of Court. I would recommend that you find out from the Clerk's office where these records are housed for the parish you want. These records usually give personal information such as date of birth, where born, parents' names, where residing, draft classification, whether married, when inducted, when discharged, units served with, etc. Additionally, you can usually find a legal recording of discharge papers in the Clerk's office, in the Conveyance Records, as most veterans were called on to bring their discharge papers to the courthouse to be recorded. Most did, many for the purpose of safekeeping, for eligibility for future benefits. There is a lot of personal and military data in these recordings, when they exist. Additionally, I've forgotten the process and who is eligible to do this, but I know there is a way to get a copy of a soldier's military records, with some batches not being available, having been burned at a storage facility. I would recommend that you get infor from a parish Veterans Officer. My papers included Selective Service registration forms, physical exams and classification forms, oaths and induction papers that I signed, and discharge papers, which I also signed! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alice Chauvin Brad shaw,SWAMPQUEEN;" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 24, 2006 12:33 PM Subject: Re: [ACADIAN-CAJUN] MISSISSIPPI: All Counties - Index of WorldWar 1 REGISTRANTS > Hi Brad, > thanks but where can i find info on WW1 Louisiana listing of soldiers? > Either draftees or Enlistees. my Daddy was a WW1 soldier.
