DGFA v 2 p 1243 (6) Joseph Moyse's wife Marie Hebert does not have parents listed. I feel that Marie MAY be the Daughter of Joseph & Isablle Benoit. If so, her 1st cousin Marie-Madeleine Hebert (d/o Ambroise & Marie Madeleine Bourg), would have married her husband's brother, Francois. They would have both married at Ile-St-Jean in 1758. Her sisters Anne-Josepthe & Francoise were also married at Port-Lajoie, Ile-St-Jean before her. Can anyone add anything? Can anybody disprove? My first feeling upon reading your letter was that you are referring to the smaller Broussard family that started out in Opelousas. There has been no proof that they are related to the larger Acadian Lafayette Broussards. This is my husbands line. I have only a bit of info on your family, and it was given to me by a friend. He didn't provide me with sources, but it may help you get started. Many of this family ended up in Avoyelles Parish. The St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mansura has detailed records. Some of the people they married originated in Pointe Coupee and traveled along Louisiana Hwy. 1 to Avoyelles. I have Cevaller Broussard's parents as Thomas Jefferson Broussard and Donatien Eveline Laborde. Her sister Lou Tishey Broussard was born Nov. 13, 1880 and died April 12, 1943. Cevaller died in 1948. According to my friend, this info came from LDS. You might look at the 1880 census. Thomas Jefferson was born Jan 9, 1857 in Avoyelles and died May 5, 1899. I do know that Thomas Jefferson and many of his brothers were married by the Minister of the Gospel; they attended the Baptist Church and some of them were born in Evergreen. Cevaller was married twice to John White and Cassius Bordelon. Thomas Jefferson's parents were Sosthene Broussard and Melinda Sayes. Sosthene was born May 25, 1834 in Norma, Louisiana and died Feb 15, 1901 and Melinda was born April 7, 1837 in Point Maigre, Avoyelles and died Dec 1, 1898. I have researched this family, but right now all I find is my friend's file. Changed computers recently so I may have not transferred mine over. I do have the documentation for ancestors a generation or two before Sosthene. The line I have shows she was born June 1881 in Broussard Cove, Louisiana along with her other siblings. I need it verified for me if possible. The only other thing I know to do is try to get a birth certificate. I have one for my grandmother. Now for another one. My grandmother's husband was Floyd Monroe Miller. His parents were Lawrence Miller and Emily Maude Willis. Those aren't Cajun names but my grandfather and at least one of his brothers looked American Indian, Cajun or French. I have run into a big dead end with my great grandparents. I can't find them on anything much less their ancestors. Can you steer me in the direction of another group that might help me? I greatly appreciate any help I can get. Glena __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Below is a response that I sent to Glena on January 16, 2006 Glena, I've received your inquiry - see below. I found Cassius Bordelon on the 1900 and 1910 census in Avoyelles Parish. Cevalia was shown as Seleva on the 1910 census. She was the 2nd wife. The wife on the 1900 census was Clara. Cassius was shown as Cassius B on the 1910 census. Your grandmother is shown as Lessie [or Lissie] which would be a nickname for Elisabeth. Seleva is shown as age 26 on the 1910 census so she would have been born in 1883 or 1884 if the age is correct. Do you know the names of siblings of Mary Cevalia? I couldn't find Cassius on the 1880 census. The first Bordelon in Louisiana was Gabriel Laurent who was born in 1696 at LeHavre, France. He married Marie Francoise Roland in 1730 in New Orleans. She was from Paris. Their son, Antoine was an officer of the Pointe Coupee Militia and fought under Galvez - see http://www.thecajuns.com/rwpointc.htm Some Bordelons moved to Avoyelles. NORTH AMERICA / BRITAIN Batter Up! It's Pancake Week! In case you were scrambling for another excuse to cozy up with some comfort food while the winter weather continues to batter your door, perk up-it's International Pancake Week! The tradition of whipping up bounteous batches of pancakes around this time of year began in the Middle Ages, and is a direct result of Lent. Since Lent is a time of abstinence for all participants, everyone prepared by ridding their pantries of rich, luxurious foods such as eggs, butter, and milk. The favorite dish to use up all the soon-to-be-forbidden ingredients was pancakes! Shrove Tuesday-- also known as Mardi Gras--is the day before Lent begins, and is everyone's last chance to indulge in the pleasures of sumptuous foods and heady beverages. Many communities around the world continue to make it a merry tradition to stuff themselves with stacks of pancakes before the season of moderation sets in. On Your Marks, Get Set, Flip! Some interesting and wacky traditions have arisen from the celebration of Pancake week, including the Pancake Race. The small town of Olney, England has been holding the Pancake Race every year since 1445. And, since 1950, the town of Liberal, Kansas has been competing with Olney in a good-natured transatlantic rivalry. The tradition began when a housewife was cooking the family's traditional Shrove Tuesday pancakes as the church bell summoning the townspeople to the shroving service began to ring. Anxious to get there on time, the woman immediately ran out the door, with her skillet still in her hand! This mistake immediately turned into a beloved tradition. Entrants in the Pancake Race must wait at the starting line, skillet in hand, until the "pancake bell" sounds. Then they must toss their pancake in the air, catch it in their skillet, and run the 400 yards to the church. Once they reach the finish line, they must once more toss their pancake in the air. When the race is finished, everyone attends the shriving service in the church, then the whole town joins together for an enormous pancake party! The most traditional way to eat your pre-Lenten pancakes is with a generous squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of sugar. No matter what you like to drizzle on top, though, have fun chomping your way through a steaming stack of pancakes this week! Stanley Thanks I was hoping someone might easily be able to connect the 3(?) different Morel families so we might get a hint of where he was slave revolt until 1818. Paul, I have info re the Hebert line. It is shown as Hebet [also Eber, Ever, Ebert, Eberre, Hever, Hivere] in the DOBR books and gradually Heber and Hebert. Francois who married Marie Anne Marcantel came from Burgundy, France. Marie-Anne Marcantel mother was Anne Rondot. When she died, her father, Francois Marcantel, married Marie-Josephe Richaume, the widow of Noel Soileau. The Marcantel and Soileau lines moved from Pointe Coupee to Opelousas. Gang am I reading this correct or does anyone read it different? Paul Samantha, It looks like you have either a Non-Acadian Cormier or an Acadian family that stayed until slave revolt in Haiti. May have been with group that went to Cuba (& SC?) before coming to Louisiana. If I am reading these correctly, he was born in Haiti probably between 1788-1798. A minimal number of Acadian family names mentioned implies non-Acadian? And you thought it was going to be easy.
