They are the same three I remember One group handles the mouth of the river. One brings the ships to the anchorage in Arabi The third brings the ships to the dock. (I am not sure how far up the river [ to BR?]) The Louisiana River Pilots' Association (LRPA) http://www.lrpa.com/ -----Original Message----- From: Thomas & Lynn Aucoin via ACADIAN <acadian@rootsweb.com> Looking for some direction in river pilot associations pre 1908 which was the year the present Crescent River Bar Pilots Association was formed. My Great Great grandfather, Captain Christopher C. Valley who died in 1903 was a river pilot before, during and after the Civil War to the day he died. His last license was dated in 1902. Three associations were mentioned in his obituary; Crescent River Pilots Association, Louisiana Bar Pilots Association and Crescent Harbor Association. None of which seem to be connected to present day associations...I’ve checked and the present associations can not provide insight. I’ve checked newspapers and the only time I’ve seen the titles above show up is in obituaries. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks! Lynn Aucoin
