    3. I am still stuck on one of my most mystifying southern Louisiana lines — the Jolibois family of St. John the Baptist and St. James Parishes. The immigrant to Louisiana seems to be Philippe Jolibois who m. ca. 1791 to Marie Louise Charpentier. No marriage record has been found for him. Note: there’s been speculation that the “Felipe Courtois” who married Marie Elisa Charpentier was Philippe Jolibois, but there are a variety of reasons that can’t be so, the most important of which is that on two of Philippe Jolibois’s children, their paternal grandparents (i.e. Philippe’s parents) are said to be Francois Jolibois and Ursule LeGrand of Montreal, and on the Courtois record “Felipe’s” parents are said to be Felipe and Marie Rosa. The records that show Philippe Jolibois’s parents as Francois and Ursule (LeGrand) Jolibois of Montreal haven’t solved his origins, however. I have been through every Quebecois record I can get my hands on, and I can’t find any matching couple. Jolibois is a “dit” name for several surnames — Kaquerelle, Bincette/Pincette, and various others. I’ve searched Tanguay and Jetté without any success. I even considered that they might be Métis, but available Métis records have also turned up nothing. Philippe Jolibois died in St. John the Baptist Parish on 9 April 1816. I’ve tried to put together as complete a record of his descendants as I can. If there are Jolibois descendants on the list who don’t mind sharing their line, I’d be very appreciative. Any suggestions or hints are welcome. cheers, Gordon > On Apr 2, 2017, at 3:24 PM, Paul L LeBlanc via ACADIAN <acadian@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > Time for our Annual Brickwall checkup > > (I guess the rollcall is finished.) > > About once a year we list our brickwalls. > > The last Acadian founders discovery was the baptism of the Melansons in London. but ask about anyone later. > (We will do the "Imaginary Ancestors" next) > > Do you have any brickwalls we have not looked at in a while. > > Tell us know what you know about the person, the spouce and the children lines you are following. > > Do you have specific questions? > But we share anything interesting we we find on the family. > It may be the clue that solves the brickwall. > > Start a new subject for each family. > > Please reply to the list as others also may be following the family. > The only no-no is about anyone who may still be living. > > > . > ------------------------------- > To check our Archive > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/acadian/ > ------------------------------- > To subscribe to the list, please send an email to ACADIAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'subscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message.
