It is interesting to see your question as to what to do with the 'stuff' you've collected at home re genealogy. I've been doing one thing that I found was helpful to a particular library. My home town was Alpena, Michigan. My dad was mayor there for 13 years. I have some information that related to him or others in 'charge' there over those years, so I've donated most of them to the library. While I lived there as an adult for 2 years later, I went to local townships and copied old records. I finally have gotten to transcribing them or simply scanning them for others to transcribe. I'm mailing them to the same library in that town. So, for that much at least, I'm finding homes. They also have a genealogy section there, and since I'm in the same situation as you are (no younger relatives alive any more that are even remotely interested in the family, and no kids to take over the genealogy (uninterested)), I'm asking that library to take over all that I have. I also have many books on genealogy subjects, and they probably will take them. But there are other things, family photos, etc. that I will just leave to the kids to take over. I'm scanning all those, in hopes that someone will be able to use them. I'm in charge of our family newsletter, and the day will come when I will have to drop that as well. (I'm 76) I will start by sending out notices that someone will have to take it over and if they want to keep it up, I'll ship them all old records and copies. That will be quite a bit of paper. Thank heavens for book rate that the PO still allows! I am curious, when we pass on, and stop paying for the ancestry membership, do all our old trees still exist in ancestry? I sure hope so! Maybe it's time to ask ancestry.com about that issue. My plan this summer is to go through ALL the things I have in both my office and my 5 huge file cabinets in the laundry room, scan everything I can, and send CDs of the scans to anyone who is vaguely related to the things on the CD. Mostly the library. Once it's all organized and refiled, then i can package up anything and send it off. I'm hoping that the library will take most of it. If you have a library that is in the right area, and can establish a relationship to someone there that will work in the genealogy or history section, then that may be where you want to ask if they want what you have. If you come up with other good ideas, share them here! Hi guys, I will answer all the 'Roll Call' stuff tomorrow, in an email. I just wanted to respond to the last couple of Cousins, that were wondering about donating to libraries. This can mean the world, to those that are still very interested in their roots. I know this for a fact, because I volunteer and am the Webmaster for The French Canadian Genealogical Society in Tolland, CT. :) People often run into similar situations. Children not showing an interest, etc. However, believe me, all is not lost. There are days when it is packed in there. Please feel free to stop by if you are ever in the area (mondays, wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays). We are also on Twitter, FB and have a new website. Many times, folks have donated entire collections, sometimes books, sometimes periodicals, and what I think is the most important...we have file cabinets filled with things folks have collected pertaining to personal stories, newspaper clippings, obits, family trees, what have you. Never lose hope that, despite how it may feel, looking at all of it, I can guarantee you, there is going to be a cousin or two, or million (haha!) that will one day need that info! Love hearing from you guys, daily. :) Claudine Purdue On Saturday, March 18, 2017 1:58 PM, Myra Herron via ACADIAN <acadian@rootsweb.com> wrote: It is interesting to see your question as to what to do with the 'stuff' you've collected at home re genealogy.
