Dagle 38 Osro F. Dagle 15 -----Original Message----- From: BART OTOOLE One of the major brick walls in my family tree is my 3rd GGF, Charles Dagle. He is listed as being born in Miramichi, NB, 15 October 1832, and listed his parents on his wedding certificate as Peter and Margaret Dagle. His US naturalization papers list this birth date. Charles was a master fisherman who skipped Canada in his mid 20’s and settled and married a Gloucester, MA girl in 1860. In 1883, he was lost at sea along with his fishing boat. His son, my 2nd GGF, listed his Charles as French Canadian on the 1900 US Federal Census. About 8 years ago, I engaged a NB genealogist to search for him and she found nothing in Canada, just his life in Gloucester, MA. Adding to the confusion are old family stories that Dagle may actually have been his mother’s maiden name, which he may have assumed when he ran off to Massachusetts. There were other Dagle fishermen from NB who also moved to Gloucester in the years shortly after he settled in Gloucester. I actually have two 3rd GGF’s who are of French Canadian (mostly Acadian) extraction. This puts me about 1/8 French, but DNA-wise, about 1/3 of my DNA matches are of Acadian and/or Cajun extraction. Any assistance would be appreciated.
In 1793 a pierre daigle was given a land grant usually many "others" will be related so more names to work with. Thank you. I ran some checks on Ancestry. Pierre and Casimir Daigle appear to be brothers and were born in France after the diaspora. They were a branch of the original Daigle family in Acadia. This is giving me some leads I did not have before. And the other Dagle/Daigle fishermen who moved to Gloucester after my 3GGF were from that area. > > On March 10, 2017 at 7:28 PM Paul L LeBlanc via ACADIAN <acadian@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > In 1793 a pierre daigle was given a land grant > usually many "others" will be related so more names to work with. > I also tried Dingle > > Index to New Brunswick Land Grants, 1784 - 1997 (RS686) > Introduction Introduction | Help Help | Search Page Search Page > > < Return to previous page > > Name DAIGLE, Pierre > Volume IV > Page 0 > Grant number 280 > Place Richibucto Harbour & River > County Northumberland > Date 1793-12-11 > Accompanying plan No > Acres 8800 > Microfilm F16301 > Comment Land Shared With 16 Others > > Other names on this grant (15): > > ARSENEAU, Charlemange 8800 acres > BABIN, Thomas 8800 acres > BLANCHARD, Joseph 8800 acres > DAIGLE, Casimir 8800 acres > DAIGLE, Fabien 8800 acres > DAIGLE, Jean 8800 acres > RICHARD, Francois 8800 acres > RICHARD, Jean 8800 acres > RICHARD, Jean Baptiste * 8800 acres > RICHARD, Louis 8800 acres > RICHARD, Paul 8800 acres > ROBICHAUD, Charles 8800 acres > ROBICHAUD, Joseph 8800 acres > ROBICHAUD, Pierre 8800 acres > ROBICHAUD, Pierre Jr. 8800 acres > > . > > ------------------------------- > To check our Archive > > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/acadian/ > > ------------------------------- > > To subscribe to the list, please send an email to ACADIAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'subscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message. Here is A Casmir & some brothers in France I do not have Fabien. Could he be born after arrival in Quebec or is a cousin? There were 11 sibs so if any other mentioned share names & I will check list. Bit of history - besides the 1600 acadians & spouses of the 7 ships of 1785 that came to Louisiana, some returned to the Maritimes. They came first as seasonal fisherman & later brought the families back. Some married in Bonaventure, Quebec before moving to NB. ===================================== Modified Register for Olivier Daigle (305) First Generation 1.
