The original post office for St. John Parish was called “Bonnet Carré” it covered the whole of St. John Civil Parish. It was never located where the spillway is located which is in St. Charles Civil Parish. There was a church in Montz, Louisiana - St. Isidore and a church in Destrehan, St. Charles Borromeo on either side of where the spillway stands. The spillway was just a few plantations. Today in the town of Norco there is also a church called Sacred Heart of Jesus. St. Pierre aka St. Peter started circa 1864 so that citizens of the east bank of St. John would not have to cross the river to Edgard for services.
