Thanks, that was a very interesting article, and a real eye-opener. After reading it, it occurs to me that New Orleans celebrates mi-carême, even though we may not realize it ! I say this as we wrap up a weekend of Irish, Italian-American, and Mardi Gras Indian parades and festivities. Although these dates (approx 15-19 March) don't always come exactly in the middle of Lent, I now think of them as New Orleans' *mi-carême -- *our way of letting off steam in the middle of the deprivations and solemnity of the lenten season !
