Lona, There were several non-related David families which settled in Louisiana in the mid-to-late 1700's. My David family arrived in Louisiana in 1766 from a 12 year exile in Snow Hill, Maryland after their deportation by the British from Grand-Pré, Acadie during Le Grand Dérangement in 1755. Over the next 5 generations this David family migrated from Convent, LA west finally settling in the Lafayette / Vermillion Parish area. The non-related Jean Baptiste David family of which you speak settled in the Opelousas area. Another non-related David family settled in the Pointe Coupee area. Steven A. Looked at it today and thought I would check Rocky's family. None of this may help but thought I would post anyway. According to my Family Tree Maker program Marguerite Elmire BREAUX, one of Rocky's 1st cousins 5x's removed, was married to Jean Baptiste DAVID April 26, 1832 St. Martinsville, La. Marguerite parents were Agricole and Scholastique PICOU BREAUX. Agricole was the son of Pierre Firmin and Marguerite BREAUX. Pierre is one of Rocky's paternal 7th great grandfathers. I have Jean Baptiste DAVID's parents as Jean Baptiste and Scholastique SAVOIE DAVID. According to what I have Jean Bepatiste and Marguerite both died in Opelousas. I also have some dates on this family and children's names but since I've not worked the line I don't know how accurate they are. If someone wants that information, I'm willing to post it.
