The one record with Felicite is the one with the grandparents listed. Are there any other records with that name? Could Jean SAUNIER & Marie ROY have reused this name after the first JB died or left home. There appear to be many records missing. I wonder if the family for some reason went down the river from St-John and used the little red church at Destrehan? i went looking for Sapnish Census records. I checked Bourgeois' Cabanocey & Oubre's Vacherie. The only one I found was in Robichaux's Louisiana Census & Military lists In the 1770 census I found a cousin 15 year old Marie Roy living in the family of Anry (Henry?) Sosscier.. See the Acadian Memorial listing below for others. http://www.acadianmemorial.org/english/ensembleencoreset.html Could Jean Espiritu (Juan Espitito) (born July 5, 1791 been called Jean Baptiste in later life rather than his godfathers name? ========================================== Acadian Memorial Record Detail Given Names: Jean (Jean Baptiste) Surname: Saulnier (Sonnier, Saunier) Date of Birth: 1746 Marriage: Married Marie (Marie Anne) Roy, daughter of Abraham Roy and Anne Auboi (Houboi), at St. Jacques de Cabannocé, May 23, 1773. Children: Rosalie (baptized March 13, 1774), Jean Baptiste (baptized August 25, 1776), Marie Marguerite (baptized October 25, 1778), Félicité (baptized June 30, 1789), Jean Espiritu (born July 5, 1791) Exile:Louisiana: Identified in the April 9, 1766, census of Cabannocé as a twenty-year-old settler occupying a parcel of land measuring four arpents frontage on the right bank of the Mississippi River. He owned one firearm. His neighbors included Jean Duon and Honoré Duon. The January 23, 1770, muster roll of the First Company of the Acadian Coast militia unit indicates that he was a fusilier, a resident of the left bank of the Mississippi River, and a twenty-one-year-old bachelor. He lived 1 3/4 leagues from the Cabannocé residence of Nicolas Verret. The April 15, 1777, census of the inhabitants of the left bank of the Mississippi River at St. Jacques de Cabannocé indicates that he was the twenty-five-year-old head of a household that also included Marie Roy, his seventeen-year-old wife, Jean Baptiste Saulnier, his four-year-old son, and Rosalie Saulnier, his three-year-old daughter. He appears with his wife and son Jean in the 1789 census of the Lafourche District, but their ages are consistently underestimated by ten to fifteen years. The 1789 census of the left bank of the Lafourche District indicates that he was the thirty-one-year-old head of a household that included Marie Roy (Abraham), his twenty-three-year-old (sic) wife, and Jean, his two-year-old son. He and his family occupied a tract of land with six arpents frontage. They owned thirty-eight barrels of corn and twelve hogs. Census of Cabannocé, April 9, 1766, AGI, PPC, 187A; Muster Roll for the First Company, Acadian Coast Militia, January 23, 1770, AGI, PPC, legajo 161; General Census of St. Jacques de Cabannocé, April 15, 1777, AGI, PPC, 190:192 et seq.; General Census of the Settlers of the Lafourche District, 1789, AGI, PPC, 202:248-259vo; Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records, 2:678-679. =============================== P Felicite and Adeline Saucier were NOT the same person. Possibly sisters --- but not yet proven. Parents of Adeline still unknown. Marcelin and Marie Saunier not cousins of child. SIBS C -----Original Message----- From: Gordon Bonne Hi folks, The only problem with this is that Jean Baptiste Sonnier, son of Jean Sonnier and Marie Roy, was born in 1776: SONNIER, Jean Baptiste (Jean Baptiste and Marie ROY) bt. 25 Aug 1776, bn. not given, spo. Andre Bourgois and Marguerit Bourgois (SJA-1, 31a) I can buy that this is the same person who married Felicite Saucier, but it's harder to see how he could have married Adeline Saucier; the youngest child of Jean Baptiste Sonnier and Adeline Saucier, Joseph, was born in 1862, at which time the above Jean Baptiste Sonnier would have been 86 years old. Even the oldest child of Jean Baptiste and Adeline, Louis Terville, has to have been born in 1836 or so, at which time the first Jean Baptiste would have been 60. Not unheard of, but fairly unusual in and of itself. In my opinion, there's no proof that the Jean Baptiste Sonnier who married Felicite Saucier and fathered Jean in 1828 is the same Jean Baptiste who married Adeline Saucer and had children starting in 1840 or so, and in fact the dates argue against it. Anyone disagree? Happy to hear counter-arguments... cheers, g On Dec 10, 2010, at 7:33 PM, Paul L LeBlanc wrote: > I will look for marriage on the river later. > > Noto two years between birth & baptisimal > > > This shows them as grandparents > SONNIER, Jean (Jean Baptiste SAUNIER & Felicite SAUSSIE [SAUCIER]) b. > 10 April 1828, bt. 10 June 1830 Pats: Jean SAUNIER & Marie ROY; > Mats: Louis SAUSSIE & Azelie DUROCHE; Spons: Marcelin SAUNIER & Marie > SAUNIER.
