I am having trouble with his parentage. He died at age 35, according to death or burial record of 1887 from Carencro in SWLR, so he was b. abt. 1852, probably in Avoyelles Parish, where his family is in the census in 1850. His father and brother (or half-brother?) are both named Henrich/Heinrich/Henry Christoph/e Stemann (or variant spelling), so it's a bit confusing as to who's who. Can someone please check Cyprien's "SW La. Records" marriage record to see if his parents are listed? Or possibly the SWLR CD for any paternal grandparents listed for his children (below)? Joseph Henri b. 4 Oct. 1877, recorded at Port Barre church Joseph Ulysse b. abt 1879? Port Barre? (I couldn't find his birth in SWLR books; his death is there.) Philomene b. 2 Mar 1881, Port Barre or Carencro area? (I couldn't find her birth in SWLR books; date is from her headstone at St. Peter's in Carencro) Ludovic b. 12 Mar 1885, recorded at Carencro church I have more info on the children if anyone's interested. An additional question, if you'll bear with me: Where would I find Avoyelles Parish (Marksville area, probably) church records for Cyprien's possible birth or baptism record (if his family was Catholic)? DOBR volumes perhaps? Various spellings I've found are: STEMMANN, STEMMANS, STEMANN, STEMMONS, STEMMAN, STANNMAN, STEMAN, STAYMAN, STEIMAN Thanks so much for any help. :) Liz Hall Morgan Los Angeles, CA (Sulphur, LA native)
