G'mornin' Does anyone know the parents/origins of Alexandre Doucet, b. ca. 1828, m. 3 Jun 1850 in Opelousas (unverified) to Celeste Comeaux, d/o Onezime Comeaux/Eloise Doucet? I found one online source which states that he was born in Acadia, but I'm not inclined to believe that without documentation -- it seems pretty "out there." None of the other usual sources have parents listed for him. Can anyone help? thanks, Gordon
Gordon Mucho tuffie Luckily the 1850 census presents the identification of Celeste Comeaux. Without it there seems to be no way to identify her. The marriage record for Alexandre Doucet and Celeste Comeaux is presented by Pere Hebert: 3 Jun 1850 Opel. Ct. Hse: Mar. #765. No other info. 20 Nov 1850 Alexandre Doucet 23 bn LA and Celeste 21 are found in the St. Landry Parish household of Onesime Comeaux and Marie his second wife (***Eleonore Labbe) Higher up on the same page is Onesime's venerable mother; and next to her is Celeste's brother Onesime. Onesime, Jr. had taken as his wife Julie Doucet (Joseph, fils-Carmelite Richard). I was drawn to further research because my wife's 3g grandfather got Julie's sister Josephine to be his second wife. After searching more than twenty hours for more census records for Alexandre and Celeste without any success, I conclude that I won't find them. Christening records for their children and a funeral record in 1888 possibly belonging to Alexandre would lead to a conclusion they probably lived in St. Landry (now Acadia) Parish for the rest of their lives. Since there was only one family of Doucet in the possible community presented in the 1850 census (Joseph, fils); and since Joseph was a sibling to Eloise Doucet (Celeste's mother), I would have to make a GUESS that Alexandre was possibly a natural son of Joseph Doucet and Carmelite Richard born before their 1828 marriage. This would make Alexandre and Celeste 1st cousins --- as also were Onesime Comeaux, Jr. and Julie Doucet.
