    3. We are absolutely positively sure that Simon Joseph's first wife was Catherine Thibodeaux. You got the records from Father Hebert with Simon's name attached. There is much more information on this family from other locations. You must understand that what became the slave registers at St. Martinville were actually the original registers. After someone decided that the slaves shouldn't be in the same register as other folks, these registers were designated to be the slave registers; and the entries for other than slaves were transcribed into a new set of registers. This is why you see Catherine's burial shown in the slave registers. (This was the first year the Acadians were at the Atakapas --- there were no slaves named Thibodeaux). ----- Original Message ----- From: Marsha M Ladner<mailto:marshal@datastar.net> To: acadian@rootsweb.com<mailto:acadian@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 04, 2010 7:10 PM Subject: Re: [ACADIAN] Leblanc, Simon &wives, children Hi, Wow, thanks!! I was working on a few things to update my database and came across these three , Simon Leblanc, Marguertite Guilbeau, and Catherine Thibodeaux in it, connected to no one. I still don't know the reason they are in my database. Can we be sure of a marriage between Catherine Thibodeaux and Simon? Due to the fact she found in the interment of the Slave Registry, wouldn't the priest have noted something in their son and grandchildren sacramental records. Or do those volumes indicate the fact? Simon and Catherine's son, "Comme" marriage contract to Isabel Broussard St. Martin Ct. House OA Vol 2, #21... does that tell us anything? Marsha
