Joseph's father Pierre Francois was the Fruge immigrant ancestor born in France who married 17 Jun 1754 at the Little Red Church Catherine Dumoulin Duplantier who was also born in France. It is fairly evident from several entries in Fr Hebert SWLR that Marie was not a Fruge; but her name was somewhat similar, and caused Fruge to be substituted. One entry shows that she was from Maryland and another entry shows her native of Fort Pitt "sur Allegani et Monongahela" C

    3. Joseph Fruge was born 9 Feb 1765 in Point Coupee Parish, Louisiana. He married abt 1788 to Marie Magdalein Fruge who died 9 Jun 1796. They had 5 children, Perrine, Magdalein, Celeste, Angelique and Joseph. Joseph Fruge's parents were Pierre Francois Fruge and Catherine Dumoulin. Pierre was born Jan 1710 and Catherine Oct 1733, both in Chaniers, Charente Maritime Province, France. Pierre died in Fakaitac (present day Eunice, St. Landry Parish, La on 5 Aug 1764. Catherine died in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, LA on 17 Dec 1796. Pierre and Catherine were married 17 Jun 1754, in the Little Red Church, German Coast, Louisiana. German Coast is were Desterhan, Louisiana is located on the Mississippi River, about 15 mile north of New Orleans. The Little Red Chruch is St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, LA Joseph's name & birth source is Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records, Vol. 1, 1707 - 1769. Marie Magdalein Fruge died 9 June 1796. Joseph had another marriage to Angelique Turner.
