    3. Thank you Dennis! Awesome history! I know this is one of the traditions my Grandma grew up w in the 'Acadian village' of Stephenville (long before the Americans built Harmon air base and the airport) ;) and before that it was Cape Breton/ Cheticamp ! The illustreous artist Gilles Vigneault, a native of Natashquan (on the North Coast of Quebec, and one of the places where Mi-Carême is still celebrated in Quebec), describes this feast as being “a game all done in mimed charades, a real board game of society.” In fact, this festival was not always focused on breathtaking costumes as we know it today. Of course, in spite of certain changes in the culture of the festival, the fact remains that the warm basics of this celebration are still well established and that is why at the end of this month several small groups of disguised and masked people will once again make the tour of the houses of Fatima, identified as houses welcoming the “mi-carêmeux” (or mid-Lenters). Upon arrival of the first French settlers in the Haut-Richelieu, the river is named "River of Montreal" (Rivière de Montréal) and "Little River Montreal" (Petite rivière de Montréal). >From the mid-nineteenth century, the segment of the river in the area of Sainte-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie is designated "River of Acadia"; it is where the exiled Acadians settled after 1768, however, the segments downstream and upstream, keep the designation of "Little river Montreal". The images of the different register index pages by letter is available by letter within year ranges You get the year & register number so you can order the image of the original document -----Original Message----- From: Genealogy à la carte Alberta civil registration indexes released online by Gail Dever http://genealogyalacarte.ca/?p=18744 http://provincialarchives.alberta.ca/how-to/find-birth-marriage-death-records/Default.aspx There was lots of excitement on social media yesterday as news travelled like wildfire about the Provincial Archives of Alberta's online release of the index of Alberta's civil registration of births, marriages, and deaths. You can now browse the indexes for births to 1897, marriages to 1942, and deaths to 1966. Note that these are indexes, not the actual records. But think of the time you save by looking at these indexes from the comfort of your home, instead of travelling to an archival centre to view microfilm images. From these indexes alone, genealogists are discovering the year their ancestor was born. http://genealogyalacarte.ca/?p=18744 http://provincialarchives.alberta.ca/how-to/find-birth-marriage-death-records/Default.aspx

    3. St. Michael church was founded in 1809, & the BMD records are published in the *Diocese of Baton Rouge* books, beginning in vol.3 (1804-1819). For earlier records, you would probably want to peek in *DofBR* v.2 (1770-1803) for the St. James church records. On Mon, Mar 20, 2017 at 1:32 PM, R. 3. St James (St-Jacques) (civil) Parish (ie county) was named after the patron (name) saint of Jacques Cantrell https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._James_Parish,_Louisiana German & Acadian Coast H&GS list of Churches http://www.gachgs.com/stjames.php?cid=79 It was Cantrell's two sons-in-law (Verrett & Judice) who were the 1st co-commandants when the Acadians arrived.
