It looks like we share the same 5-great grandfather. I am descended from Rosalie Trahan who married into the Penisson family. She was Mathurin's daughter. I see that you used Stephen White's Dictionnaire as a source of info. I don't have access to his books, as I am in rural Virginia and would have to go to Richmond or Williamsburg. I am hoping that you are willing to share the info I need. Joseph Trahan is often confused and overlooked. I have never found concrete proof that he was Rene's son. However, someone posted that they had been in touch with one of White's colleagues who said Stephen White had figured out that Joseph was Rene's son. Do you know if there was anything in White's Dictionnaire that might give proof? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. It looks like we share the same 5-great grandfather. I am descended from Rosalie Trahan who married into the Penisson family. She was Mathurin’s daughter. I see that you used Stephen White’s Dictionnaire as a source of info. I don’t have access to his books, as I am in rural Virginia and would have to go to Richmond or Williamsburg. I am hoping that you are willing to share the info I need. Joseph Trahan is often confused and overlooked. I have never found concrete proof that he was Rene’s son. However, someone posted that they had been in touch with one of White’s colleagues who said Stephen White had figured out that Joseph was Rene’s son. Do you know if there was anything in White’s Dictionnaire that might give proof? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, . ------------------------------- To check our Archive http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/acadian/ ------------------------------- To subscribe to the list, please send an email to ACADIAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'subscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message. 3. Mathurin is my 5th GGfather What Acadians in Gray, The Acadian Memorial, & what I have follows Marguerite died childless soon after arrival in Louisiana Her parents listed on her Marriage on pg 240 Robichaux's Acadans in Nantes I have most of the books cited so if need more details just ask ============================== Acadian in Gray Trahan familly http://www.acadiansingray.com/ Mathurin Trahan, age 24, Joseph's oldest son, crossed on La Bergère with French wife Pérrine-Marguerite Orry, age 19. Mathurin remarried to a fellow Acadian at Lafourche in July 1786 and settled on the upper bayou, where his children were born. Descendants of Mathurin TRAHAN (1760-1793; Guillaume, ?) Mathurin, eldest son of Joseph Trahan and Marie Boudrot, born at Bristol, England, in October 1760, was repatriated to France with his family in 1763. He became a calico printer in the mother country and married Pérrine-Marguerite, daughter of Frenchman Charles Orry, at Nantes in November 1784. They sailed to Louisiana aboard La Bergère, the second of the Seven Ships, in 1785 and went to upper Bayou Lafourche, where Mathurin remarried to Marie-Madeleine, daughter of fellow Acadian Joseph Blanchard, in July 1786. Marie-Madeleine also had come to Louisiana aboard La Bergère. Their children were born on the upper bayou. Their daughters married into the Aucoin, Landry, and Pelicon families. Mathurin died at Assumption in November 1793; he was only 31 years old. His family line, except for its blood, did not survive in the Bayou State. Firmin-Mathurin, born at Assumption in October 1793, died at Assumption in April 1807. He was only 13 1/2 years old. His line of the family died with him. ================================== What the Acadian memorial has http://www.acadianmemorial.org/ensemble_encore2/record_detail.php?id=1163 Record Detail Given Names:Mathurin Surname: Trahan Sobriquet: Date of Birth:1/1/1761 Birthplace: Baptised At: Date of Baptism: Mother: Marie Boudrot Father:Joseph Trahan Marriage: Married (1) Marguerite Ory. Married (2) Marie Blanchard, at Ascension Parish, La., July 3, 1786. Children: Second marriage: Marguerite (married May 5, 1806) Exile: Departed France aboard the Bergère, a 300-ton merchant vessel chartered by the Spanish government to transport Acadian exiles to Louisiana, May 12, 1785. Arrived in Louisiana, August 15, 1785. Louisiana: The 1788 census of the Lafourche District indicates that he was the thirty-six-year-old head of a household that included himself and Marie Blanchard, his eighteen-year-old wife. The couple owned a tract of land with six arpents frontage. They also owned twenty-five barrels of corn, one horse, and four hogs. The 1789 census of the Lafourche District indicates that he was the fifty-one-year-old head of a household that included the following persons: Marie Blanchard, his nineteen-year-old wife; and Marie Trahan, his twelve-year-old daughter. He and his family occupied a tract of land with six arpents frontage. They owned one cow. Circumstances of Death: His burial record indicates that he was thirty-one years old at the time of his death. The date of the burial record is obviously erroneous, for his is listed in the 1789 census of the Lafourche District. The death date is probably 1796, for his wife remarried in 1798.
