    2. -----Original Message----- From: terry from Louisiana Civil War message board and sending orbituary seperately..Terry  Randy Jarreau of the Baton Rouge Civil War Roundtable: Ladies and Gentlemen: Dr. Arthur W. Bergeron, Historian, passed away on Monday February 8, 2010 in Pennsylvania. I received correspondence from several people (including Richard Holloway & Charles Neal of the Civil War Round Table of Central LA and Debbie Nance & Danny Brown of the B.R. Civil War Round Table), and have combined the information gleaned from these to provide the following: As most of you know, Art, a central Louisiana native, wrote many books and articles about the Civil War in our state. If anyone had a question about the War, he was the one that was asked and he always found the answer being sought. According to Art's sister, Sarah McDuffie, regarding Art's death: He was taken to the hospital in Carlysle, PA. on Friday & had trouble breathing. He was placed on a ventilator, since his cancer had spread to his lungs, to await the arrival of his family. After everyone had arrived in Shippensburg, his wife (Carol) and his daughter (Kathleen) made the difficult decision Monday to take him off of life-support. He died about 5 minutes later. This was a rare and aggressive cancer that attacked his kidneys. Art was diagnosed in early October and despite treatment his tumor had grown significantly by the time he had surgery in late December. Art had the best of care from some of the nation's leading cancer surgeon's at Johns Hopkins, but there was nothing they could do. Carol and Kathleen did everything they could to keep Art comfortable. As you all well know, Art did not like fuss or attention. In keeping with his wishes there will be only a private family service on Wednesday (Feb. 10, 2010) before Art is cremated. Art's ashes will go home to Louisiana to be placed with those of his mother Elsie. The service will be at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home in Shippensburg. As will be no surprise to those of you who knew him well, Art definitely did not want flowers. The funeral home will be setting up a page for messages to the family. It's not up yet, but the obituary index page is at http://www.fogelsanger-brickerfuneralhome.com/obituaries.html Instead of flowers the family suggests donations to the March of Dimes or American Cancer Society . Art will be missed by many.

    2. Paul: I didn't know if this e-mail would be going to you personally if I addressed it to the 1st e-mail address above so am sending it to both of you addresses. Nice 'personally' chatting with you last week and sorry for not getting back to you by now. I've been having computer prob's which are now semi resolved but with daily backups, at least I didn't lose any files! Have been doing daily checks of the genealogy list website you mentioned during our call and although most do not apply to any of my lines, I do occasionally stumble upon an item of interest so you can keep me on the list. One latest item of interest was your 2010-11 celebrations. Both occur during our Fall/Winter season, so possibly not a good travel time for us but I have a few contacts who either live or winter in the U.S. so will keep them posted in the event that they are interested. When did you say you were going to Nova Scotia? We may still be down there while you are and could possibly arrange for a get together. Sandra

    3. There is a booklet published by the SAR titled "Galvez and other Louisiana Patroits. Available from the SAR in Baton Rouge. Its very handy. Galvez and Other Louisiana Patriots, by Leroy E. Willie (Louisiana Society SAR) describes Louisiana's participation in the Revolutionary War, with illustrations, maps, and a list of over 1,900 names of Acadian, French, German, and Spanish settlers who served with Galvez against the British in 1779.

Paul Le B l'Ascension Louisiane =================================================== Contact: Ray Trahan FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Telephone: 337.288.2681 LOUISIANE-ACADIE, INC. ANNOUNCES ?GRAND R?VEIL ACADIEN / GREAT ACADIAN AWAKENING? Lafayette, Louisiana. January 29, 2010 - Louisiane-Acadie, aiming to fulfill the mission to mobilize all Acadians to participate in the continued expression of their native French language and culture, announces "Grand R?veil Acadien / Great Acadian Awakening?, a one week gathering of Acadians from around the world, to be held in Louisiana in October 2011. >From September 30 to October 9, 2011, the entire Acadiana Region will open its doors to welcome family and friends, who want to celebrate and assist in helping preserve the Acadian/Cajun culture, customs, traditions and history of the first North American settlers, the Acadians. The "Grand R?veil Acadien / Great Acadian Awakening? will be held the week before Festival Acadiens et Cr?oles and will close with a huge celebration of renewal on the last day of the Festival. After engaging a group of young adult Cajuns (Les Jeunes Cadiens) to represent the Louisiana Acadians at the 2009 World Acadian Congress, an awakening of their heritage became evident. "The spirited Acadians of the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick , hosts of the 2009 Congress, more particularly the ?Grand Rassemblement Jeunesse?, sparked a renaissance and awakening of our younger generation's pride and interest in preserving their Cajun ancestor's native French language and culture,? states Louisiane-Acadie President Ray Trahan. The Acadians left France in the early 1600s to colonize ?Acadie,? present - day Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Canada. Years after the Deportation of 1755, over 3,000 Acadians arrived and settled in south Louisiana bringing with them the French language and rich French-Acadian customs. These settlers, now called "Cajuns," are estimated to number over 600,000. As the Louisiana gulf coast, where many Acadians settled, dwindles, the Cajuns are forced to move further north to English-speaking communities. Consequently, as the older generation of Acadians passes away, our French language and many Cajun traditions risk being lost forever. When Cajun parents/grandparents pass away, material possessions from those loved ones are dearly preserved to remember and honor them. "There is no better way to honor and remember our loved ones, than to keep and to live their native French language and culture,? says Trahan. The importance of keeping this momentum cannot be lost. It is time to invite the world, especially those of Acadian descent, to join us, in Louisiana, and continue the fight to keep this culture alive! We have awakened a renewed spirit of our Cajun people and need everyone, including our international families and cousins, to support us in our efforts. "The spirited Acadians of the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick , hosts of the 2009 Congress, more particularly the “Grand Rassemblement Jeunesse”, sparked a renaissance and awakening of our younger generation's pride and interest in preserving their Cajun ancestor's native French language and culture,” states Louisiane-Acadie President Ray Trahan. The Acadians left France in the early 1600s to colonize “Acadie,” present - day Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Canada. "There is no better way to honor and remember our loved ones, than to keep and to live their native French language and culture,” says Trahan. Vive l’Acadie! ### If you would like more information on this event, please contact Ray Trahan at (337) 288 – 2681 or visit www.gra2011.org and www.louisiane-acadie.com. For your information: “Grand Réveil Acadien/Great Acadian Awakening”: Mission: The mission of the Great Acadian Awakening is to awaken the population of Louisiana and the world, primarily those of Acadian descent, and in particular our youth, to the realization that, while we have made positive strides, the people of Louisiana are losing their French language, culture, and coastal land, and to seek support, partnerships, solutions and concerted plans of action through these large gatherings. Executive Board Members: President Ray Trahan Vice-President Elaine Clement Secretary Peggy Matt Treasury Loubert Trahan Philippe Gustin Brenda Trahan Valerie Broussard Lucius Fontentot Associate Members Sharon Alfred Angie Istre Information will be forthcoming as plans are finalized. 2. >From cousine Gayle Breaux She shared her trip to CMA last year with us. At the end of this post is this paragraph with the VERY VERY early details of the October 2011 Acadian Celebration. =================== FUTURE EVENT: OCTOBER, 2011: During October of 2011 the organization LOUISIANE-ACADIE plans to have a LOUISIANA ACADIAN CELEBRATION that will involve all Acadian Family organizations. Some of the major activities will be held in Houma, Lafayette, and Lake Charles. Family reunions will be encouraged at their choice of location. This will be held the week preceding the FESTIVAL ACADIAN & CREOLE so that everything concludes with the FESTIVAL ACADIAN & CREOLE http://www.festivalsacadiens.com/ held in Lafayette. ==================== I call it the "Gumbo Rendezvous". I wonder what name they will choose for it? So mark your calender to be in Louisiane that week. Get away from the Ice & snow for a little while. Some of the host families are planning to find "guest bedrooms" in their homes for distant cousins, I have a few sleeping bags & a tent for the "boys" to sleep under the live oak in the back yard. Paul Le B l'Ascension Louisiane ============================================= Roger Rozendal 2003 Card money analysis. SIMON LE BLANC Simon-Joseph Le Blanc, born 30 January 1737 (DOBR v. 1A, p. 152), son of René Le Blanc (White p. 990) and Anne Terriot (White p. 1490) married 1) ca 1758 Catherine-Louise Thibodeau, born ca 1741?, daughter of Charles Thibodeau (White p. 1509) and Francoisé Comeau (White p. 376). A daughter, Marguerite, was born ca 1759. A son Cosme was born ca 1761 and a daughter Marie-Louise was born 30 January 1762 (ADNO v. 2, p. 177).. On 12 August 1763 at Halifax as prisoners were listed (Jehn p. 251): Simon Le Blanc, his wife, three children These are probably Simon Le Blanc age 26 Catherine-Louise Thibodeau age 22 Marguerite age 3 Cosme age 2 Marie-Louise age 1 Another daughter, Marie-Angelique, was born 1 January 1765 (ADNO v. 2, p. 177), probably on the voyage to Louisiana. Simon and his family came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard where on 5 April 1765, he received a receipt for 48 livres in ordonnances and 246 livres in billetes in Canadian money (Receipts). They moved to Attakapas where 15 November 1765, Catherine-Louise Thibodeau was buried (SM Ch.: Slave Funeral Register v. 1 #34; Opel Ch.: v. 1-A, p. 126-Hebert v. 1A, pp. 746-747). In the 1766 Attakapas census is found: Simon LeBlanc, 1 boy This is probably: Simon Le Blanc age 29 Cosme, his son age 5 It seems not only did Catherine-Louise die, but Marguerite, Marie-Louise, and Marie-Angelique are gone. Simon remarried ca 1768 Marguerite Guilbeau, widow of Jean Boudreau (see 11) JEAN BOUDRO) with a son, Jean-Charles. In the 1769 Attakapas census is found: Simon Le Blanc age 32 His wife (Marguerite Guilbeau age 26) Come his son age 9 (by first wife) Donna his son (sic) age 5 (actually Jean-Charles (Donat) Boudrot) Marguerite new born ======================================================

This would be 1750 to 1800 or so. Seems I have only their names, no dates, marriages, etc. Thanks, Marsha
