    3. Hello Everyone I'm sorry that I am late into this one. I see this one as truly being not this hard. The first thing we should do is find the parents and the sibs. We would have noted among the sibs twins Azema & Zelima, sister Zelina and brother Treville on our list. (Doesn't this answer most of the questions already?) When looking at the marriage of Charles Guidry we would have seen that Zelina was only 11 --- so Zelima is the bull's-eye C ----- Original Message ----- From: Gordon Bonnet<mailto:jaggy227@fltg.net> To: acadian@rootsweb.com<mailto:acadian@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 17, 2010 4:38 AM Subject: Re: [ACADIAN] Guidry, Azelina, m. 2. Gordon and All, Did anyone list this record from Hebert's SWLR CD yet? GUIDRY, Zelina (Alexandre & Carmelite BROUSSARD) bt. 25 April 1840 at age 6 1/2 mths. (Laf. Ch.: v. 5, p. 183) Looks like this younger daughter is the one who married Jean COMEAU/COMEAUX, although her age at death is off by quite a bit. But then they even forgot her first name!? GUIDRY, ---- m. Jean COMEAUX d. 13 May 1900 at age 69 [sic] yrs. (Laf. Ch.: v.5, p. 1) Karen

    1. Re: [ACADIAN] Children Francois Hebert m 1760 Marie LeBlanc
    2. Cousins Thanks Karen for the beautiful work Please switch to Karen's rather than mine for the family. I will compare the two and share the differences over the next week and then delete my earlier post from the archive. The two I see right away are Marie-Josephe LeBlanc & Joseph Alexis not Alexandre Landry (who we will work later) My Marie-Marguerite was from pre-Katrine when I shared/helped a cousin off list. We missed doing a correction when we did the tree of Fernand Cavalier & Emily Simoneaux, the couple in Assumption Parish who had been married for 80(?) years. To get us started. In Kleinpeter's Family Book The Le Blanc Legacy pg 91- 92. shows two Marie-Josephe born to Jean LeBlanc & MJ Theriot. The one born in 1730 she has married 1750 to Simon-Pierre Dupuis (Antoine & Josephe Dugas). They were exiled to New York & she died in 7 Feb 1765 at Mirebalis, Santo Domingo (Haiti) She shows a second Marie-Josephe born abt 1740 who married Francois Hebert. (looks like we will be doing more pencil corrections in the book. I now understand why Bonnie tried not to sell me the book.) Wood pg 116 shows in 1767 Charles 4 years old (born right after census of 1763) and Marie 25 born 1742. Using our birth of eldest child rules of thumb Marie & Francois were married 1762 (or before) Using our female marry at 18 rule they were married about 1760. Francois was within one year. We share all our sources & resolve the differences. These are the reasons we share on list rather that rely on the online trees. ======================= Someone asked about the "rules of thumb" I use to start looking for people & rites. A couple will marry one year before birth of first child. Males marry at 20, females at 18. During war time, females marry younger & males Later. Before Genealogy "captured" me I was a professional "student (& teacher)" Every semester I would take or teach one or two classes a semester at universities. One of my degrees was in Anthropology & Socialogy where I learned of the rules & norm's of cultures & societies. These are the basis of my "Rules of Thumb". These the reasons we share on list rather that rely on the online trees. . Gabriel de Manchac, but that he cannot do so because of the diriment impediment that existed between them. He asks, moreover, the Bishop to order this information be accepted about the following matters: 2) Alexandro Landry set forth this relationship as follows: a) That Alexandro Landry is the legitimate son of Estevan Landry and Maria Landry. b) That Coleta Ebert, his intended wife, is the legitimate daughter of Francisco Ebert and Maria Blanc. c) That Francisco Ebert, father of his intended wife, is the legitimate son of Francisco Ebert and Margarita Ferrin. d) That Francisco Ebert, grand-father of his intended wife, is the legitimate son of Santiago Ebert and Margarita Landry. e) That Estevan Landry, Alexandro's father, is the legitimate son of Josef Landry and Maria Foret. f) That Josef Landry, Alexandro's great-grand-mother of his intended wife are the legitimate children of Antonio Landry and Maria Grange, from which results the impediment of consanguinity in the third and fourth degree, unequal. g) That the majority of the Acadians, even of diverse parishes, are relative so that it is very difficult to marry strangers. That his intended wife, even having father and mother, is poor so that if their marriage does not take place, she would be exposed to other ends. 3) That since these facts are considered sufficient, Alexandro Landry begs the Bishop to grant them this dispensation and that Father Buenaventure de Castro, pastor of s. Gabriel de Manchac may marry them in the usual form. --To this is added, at the top of the first page, a note by Rivas certifying that the above document was presented before him by the party on Dec. 31, 1795, who said he could not sign. --To this is added a decree by Bishop Penalver y Cardenas ordering that the information presented by the party be received and that the witnesses should appear and the results brought in. --To this is added a note by Rivas certifying that the above decree was issued and signed by Bishop Penalver on Jan. 2, 1796. --Another note by Rivas certifying that, on the same day, he notified Alexandro Landry of the above decree. -------- 1796 Jan. 2 Rivas, Dr. Joseph Maria de, Secretary (New Orleans) Rivas certifies: 1) That Alexandro Landry appeared before him, and, under oath, answered the questions asked as follows: 2) a) That his name is Alexandro Landry from the parish of La Fourche. b) That he is the legitimate son of Estevan Landry and Maria Landry. c) That he is 20 years old, unmarried and engaged only to Coleta Ebert from the parish of S. Gabriel de Manchac. d) That he knows of no other impediment. 3) Finally, Alexandro Landry swears that all he said is the truth, and did not sign because he could not. This is notarized by Rivas. --Immediately appeared Miguel Duga (Dugas ?), a witness presented by Alexandro Landry, who, under oath, testified as follows: a) That he knows Alexandro Landry, legitimate son of Estevan Landry and Maria Landry. b) That Coleta Ebert from the parish of S. Gabriel de Manchac is the legitimate daughter of Francisco Ebert and Maria Blanc. c) That Francisco Ebert, Coleta's father is the legitimate son of francisco Ebert and Maria Ferrin. d) That Francisco Ebert, grand-father of his intended wife, is the legitimate son of Santiago Ebert and Margarite Landry. e) That Estevan Landry, Alexandro's father, is the legitimate son of Joseph Landry, and Margarita Foret. f) That Joseph Landry, Alexandro's grand-father and Margarita Landry, Coleta's great-grand-mother, were brothers, legitimate children of Antonio Landry and Maria Grange, from which results the impediment of consanguinity of the third and fourth degrees, unequal. g) That the majority of the Acadians are related, and that the parents of Coleta are poor and have four children. That it was publicly said that Alexandro used to frequent their house and had relations with Coleta. h) Finally, he swears to the truth of his statements and that he is 31 years old. He did not sign because he could not. This is notarized by Rivas. --Immediately appeared Jose Moller another witness presented by Alexandro Landry from whom Rivas received sworn testimony to the truth of the same points witnessed by Miguel Dugas. He swore also that he is 30 years old. Signed by Jose Moller and notarized by Rivas. -------- 1796 Jan. 2 Penalver y Cardenas, Luis Bishop (New Orleans) The Bishop decrees: 1) That having examined the documents concerning Alexandro Landry's petition for a dispensation to marry Coleta Ebert, he dispenses them from the impediment of consanguinity and considers as legitimate any children they may have. 2) Moreover, that the parties must cease living under the same roof for the time being, so that they may restore with their example all they have destroyed by their scandal. 3) Moreover, in order to absolve them from their fault, that, during the publication of the banns, they must daily pray on knees the three parts of the rosary and attend also the high Mass of the parish. 4) Finally that information be sent to the pastor of St. Gabriel de Manchac to marry them in the usual form. Signed by the Bishop of Louisiana and witnessed by Rivas. --to this is added a note by Rivas certifying that information was sent to Father Buenaventure de Castro, pastor of St. Gabriel de Manchac. 1. Re: [ACADIAN] Guidry, Azelina, m. Charles Oculi Guidry
    2. Gordon Bonnet
    3. Thanks so much for the information -- from what you sent, I'm thinking that Azelima who m. Charles Oculi Guidry is the one who was born in 1825, as this matches with her age at death (47 in 1872). The Azelina (I think her name was more often spelled with an 'n') who married Jean Comeaux seems to have been a younger sister -- by her age at death (69 in 1900) she was born ca. 1831, but there doesn't seem to be a birth record for her. Definitely two different people! cheers, g On May 13, 2010, at 11:53 PM, pleblan@aim.com wrote: > Gordon > > interesting > > Daryl LaBine Guidry family book v 1 p80 > Charles Oculi father Joseph and Azelina (b 1826) father Alexandre were > brothers so they would be first cousins!!! 1. [ACADIAN] Children Francois Hebert m 1760 Marie LeBlanc
    2. When we were looking for Non-Acadian Heberts, Charles was reported to be "of Canada". We found him born in exile in Maryland. Still looking for other Hebert families. C asked for Charles' sibs. They are below with sources. We need to make a few pencil corrections to DOBR v 2. Pg 371 Marina reference (SGA-14, 23) should be (SGA-14, 23, 83 ) from other half of marriage Pg 373 Rosalia reference (SGA-14, 6) should be (SGA-14, 6, 15 ) from other half of marriage Note Charles' mother is born Marie-Marguerite. During most of the records she is Marie. Somewhere along the line she becomes Marie-Josephe. Any additions or corrections? 3. Hello Andre I found the ancestrydotcom entry you are referring to. It contains bad information; so anything from the publisher should be viewed as dubious. (Even though there is some truth thrown in.) Here is the story entry: *** DO NOT REPUBLISH*** {Although confined to the southern part of the state, the surname of LEJEUNE presents a complex distribution characterized by several concentrations, each which was begun by immigrants of that surname who settled in Louisiana at different times during the last half of the eighteenth century. Lejeunes were among the early French settlers in Acadia, one family of that name having been recorded there in 1646. The Lejeune refugees from Acadia who came to Louisiana after the Expulsion of 1755 consisted of two groups, one arriving probably in the late 1760's or early 1770's, the other in 1785. The first group may have comprised only of three young Lejeune brothers, possibly orphans. They were Blaise, Joseph, and Jean Baptiste , sons of Jean Baptiste Lejeune . Jean Baptiste Lejeune dit Briard , son of Germain Lejeune and Anne-Marie Trahan, married around 1742 Marguerite Clemenceau dit Beaulieu. Marguerite was buried at St. Jean at the age of 25 on November 24, 1756. Jean Baptiste was buried at St. Charles at the age of 40 on February 11, 1758. All three Lejeune brothers settled in St. Landry Parish and were the progenitors of the largest branch of Lejeunes in Louisiana. Blaise, who married in 1773 to Marie-Josephe Breaux, obtained land on both the upper Bayou Plaquemine Brulee (southwest of Opelousas Post) and in the Faquetaique Prairie (near Eunice), both areas becoming centers of the largest line of Lejeune descendants, which was further propagated by Blaise's five sons.} ------------------------------------------------------------------ We know the Lejeune brothers did not arrive at New Orleans. Their ship caught unfavorable winds and was blown past the Mississippi to a landing on the Texas coast near Corpus Christie. They were brought to San Antonio and later to the Natchitoches Post for release by the Spanish authorities. The info about Blaise is truthful. Zelie Ann Faulk. There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there -- or, if the information is correct, it's pretty peculiar. I have Neville as b. ca. 1823, in Lafayette, son of Asa Foreman and Rachael Foreman (Asa and Rachael were cousins). Different sources give different death dates for Neville -- some say 4 Jul 1844, others 4 Jul 1847, in Lafayette. Neville's wife, Zelie Anne Faulk, was the daughter of Benjamin and Marguerite (Foreman) Faulk, and they married on 13 November 1838 in Lafayette. However, that same date -- 13 Nov 1838 -- is given in more than one place as the marriage date for Neville's parents, Asa Foreman and Rachael Foreman. I really doubt that the parents were married on the same date as their son...! Can anyone verify (or disprove!) any of this for me? It's a pretty confusing family, with a lot of intermarriage... thanks Gordon

    1. [ACADIAN] Foreman confusion

    3. I am attempting to sort out the dates for Neville Foreman, m.

Departed Port Tobacco, Maryland, for Louisiana aboard the Britain, January 5, 1769. The ship's provisions were dangerously low when the ship sailed. Arrived off the Louisiana coast on February 21, but the ship's commander refused to put ashore; instead the vessel sailed aimlessly throughout the Gulf of Mexico until the passengers, who had been reduced to eating rats and shoe leather, mutinied and forced the sailors to make landfall as quickly as possible. Upon landing at Matagorda Bay, the crew and passengers were arrested and detained as smugglers by Spanish authorities at Goliad, Texas. The Acadians subsequently worked at local ranches during days, returning to their detention center in the presidio at night, until their release on August 11, 1769. The Acadians subsequently traved overland to Natchitoches, where they arrived October 24, then to the Iberville District. Many of the Acadians in this party continued on to the Opelousas District, where they finally settled. Louisiana: Accompanied by his brother Blaise at the time of their arrival at Natchitoches, October 24, 1769. He is listed as a fuselier in the Opelousas District militia, June 8, 1777, but he does not appear in the 1777 census of the Opelousas District. He is listed in the 1779 muster roll of the Opelousas District militia. This suggests that he served in the 1779 Spanish military campaign against Manchac and Baton Rouge in British West Florida during the American Revolution. His name is rendered as J. Bte Le Jeune in the 1779 list. Identified as a resident of the Avoyelles District on October 19, 1788. Blaise LeJeune received a full Spanish title to the Iberville property in 1774. Subsequently settled in the Opelousas District. He appears as a fusilier in the April 15, 1776, muster roll of the Opelousas District militia unit. He is listed as a fuselier in the Opelousas District militia, June 8, 1777. Sold a parcel of land in the Opelousas district to Joseph LeJeune, July 23, 1783. Identified as a fusilier (i.e., a private) in the July 30, 1785, muster roll of the Opelousas militia unit. The 1788 census of the Opelousas District indicates that he was the head of a household that included four unidentified men of unspecified ages. He and his family owned twenty-four cows and seven horses. They occupied a tract of land with eight arpents frontage. The census indicates that he and his family resided in the Bellevue area of the Opelousas District. According to the May 1796 census of the Opelousas District, he was the head of a household that included one boy under the age of fifteen years, two females under the age of fifteen years, three males fifteen years of age or older, and one male fifteen years of age or older. His name is rendered as Joseph Le Jeune in the 1779 list. Purchased a parcel of land in the Opelousas district from Blaise LeJeune, July 23, 1783. Identified as a fusilier (i.e., a private) in the July 30, 1785, muster roll of the Opelousas militia unit. A deposition by John Hay indicates that Joseph LeJeune resided on a disputed tract of land in the Opelousas district from 1786 to 1789. According to the May 1796 census of the Opelousas District, he was the head of a household including four males under the age of fifteen years, three females under the age of fifteen years, two males fifteen years of age or older, and one female fifteen years of age or older. He and his family owned one slave boy under the age of fifteen years and one slave girl under the age of fifteen years. In 1800, he and his family reportedly owned 1,040 acrres of land in the Fakaitaic Prairie (near present-day Eunice, La.) and seven slaves. In 1810, he and his wife owned ten slaves. Joseph LeJeune and his children Anglicized their surname, identifying themselves as members of the Young family in the 1810 census of Louisiana. They and their descendants have continued to identify themselves as Youngs to the present. (Joseph LeJeune did, however, identify himself by his birth name when his second marriage was validated by the Catholic church in 1843.) On September 20, 1821, Joseph Young and Patsy Hay partitioned their property among their ten surviving children. At that time, their estate included fifteen slaves. Joseph Young and his second wife were living near bayou Plaquemine at the time of his death. Circumstances of Death: His burial record indicates that he was 110 years old at the time of his death. So someone published on Ancestry.com that Jean-Baptiste Lejeune is dead in 1796 at Opelousas. Is it true? Did someone have this record? Best regards, Andre
