Paul: In yesterday's Times Picayune, there was an obituary for Dr. Elwood Joseph LeBlanc, Jr., age 66, a current resident of Mandeville. This was my first cousin, a native of Metairie, and my mother's nephew. E.J.'s father was the youngest of my mother's two siblings. He is a Le Blanc, despite being on my mother's side of the family, because my mother was a Le Blanc also. On such short notice, Cheryl and I are not able to get to New Orleans for the funeral today. But our #2 son, David, will represent our immediate family. Found the following info in "Convdyance Records of Attakapas County, 1801-1818, by Glenn R. Conrad, the following info: RATIFICATION OF LAND SALE, Sept. 21, 1804. (Document is damaged by ink burn and is fragmented) Eloi Landry, husband of Julienne Trahan, widow of Baptiste (Gaspard?), ratified the sale of a tract of land located on Bayou Vermilion, measuring 1x40 arpents on both sides of the bayou. The sale was to Paul Trahan. I would think that the above info will sort of clear up a marriage date of ca 1804 or even earlier. C, Interesting. Thanks. Marsha I believe there was no formal ceremony. The marriage would have been recorded with the priest from St. Martinville on a visit to what is now Vermilion Parish. All the events Paul gave for this family took place in Vermilion Parish. Baptiste Broussard would have been brought to St. Martinville for internment --- the others to Lafayette. I cannot give any interpretation of the records in 1825. The documents would have to be viewed. I believe they still owned property at la Grande Pointe because they obviously were living at Vermilion (then in Lafayette Parish) and the succession was opened in St. Martin. snip Did you ever find the marriage of Eloy Landry to Julienne Trahan? My info. says they m ca. 1808 St. Martinville. and he is deceased before Aug. 15, 1825 in Lafayette. I don't have the source for his death. Wonder where I might have got that? Hate when I do that!! snip I could not find their marriage. Maybe someone else will have better luck. It is between burial of 1st husband 13 Feb. 1798 & birth of 1st child with Eloy 15 Sept. 1803 I wonder if was courthouse/judge marriage? I think the 1825 succession for her is not for her but her as a survivor of Eloy. Your graciousness is overwhelming! Michel's mother must be the Elizabeth Hebert 66 years in his household for the 1850 census Iberville Parish. I know I have some Schlatre in my notes. One of those Germanic names found spelled 10,000 ways!
