The problem with Mme Courville's last name is understandable. Only shortly before the marriage of her daughter to Alexis COURVILLE, Mme LOCAT (Marie Josette Chevalier LOCAT dit Renaud) married Marc FERRETTI, an Italian. Alexis and Elisabeth were married 24 Nov. 1760 at Cahokia, Illinois. All of his life Pierre COURVILLE would have known his grandmother by the last name of her second marriage...on Louisiana records, she was identified by this name "FERETTI" rather than her correct maiden name "LOCAT." I strongly suspect that Marie Friger/Fruge wasn't at all related to the Louisiana Fruge family. I've found references to her being from Fort Pitt (Pittsburgh) PA, or Maryland -- suspect she was Anglo and the French recorded her name as Fruge or Frige. Just a hunch... cheers, g On Jul 20, 2010, at 10:04 AM, pleblan@aim.com wrote: > > Cousins > > It looks like the name police struck again. > > The only Fruge family I could find in DOBR or ADNO was Joseph & his > sibs. > > > > > Frige(r) seems to be standard when discussing Marie. > > Does anyone have a list of Non-Acadian on the Britiana? The Olinde family was from Pointe Coupee; it was originally Petersen dit Olinde (the "dit" came from Holland, Pieter Heinrich Petersen's birthplace). The progenitor, Pieter Heinrich, married Marie Francoise Bouton, daughter of Jean Baptiste Bouton and Anne Saucier. Can anyone place Celina? thanks, Gordon

Hi All, I haven't posted for awhile since I've been using a lot of my time lately reading and researching, and still slowly working my way through all the info people have sent me. I just came across a reference to a Sebastien ("e" accented) MORIN, a Naval Captain ("capitaine de navire"), the Captain of the ship L'Esperance (one of the "e"s is accented I believe) coming to Acadia (Ste-Croix) about 1600-1601 with CHAUVIN (I may not have this name quite right) from Honfleur, France. He may have done no more that arrive with the ship and leave, but ... So, I tried looking on the web, see following: http://naviresnouvellefrance.com/html/pages15851599.html Also in a French Google book (look at pages before and after on this one - I haven't tried to translate this yet): http://books.google.com/books?id=KgcbAAAAYAAJ <http://books.google.com/books?id=KgcbAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA89&lpg=PA89&dq=%22S%C3%A 9bastien+Morin%22+%22capitaine+de%22&source=bl&ots=jE8NE6M3Br&sig=sq44HGZhA3 iIO5vdnbFnlHZ9b9I&hl=en&ei=prZFTMKDOsP58AaxvtmUBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=res ult&resnum=2&ved=0CBcQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22S%C3%A9bastien%20Morin%22%20%22c apitaine%20de%22&f=false> &pg=PA89&lpg=PA89&dq=%22S%C3%A9bastien+Morin%22+%22capitaine+de%22&source=bl &ots=jE8NE6M3Br&sig=sq44HGZhA3iIO5vdnbFnlHZ9b9I&hl=en&ei=prZFTMKDOsP58Aaxvtm UBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBcQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22S% C3%A9bastien%20Morin%22%20%22capitaine%20de%22&f=false And a cached address of data for an address no longer reachable: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:5Oa5NZuGXroJ:www0.umonc ton.ca/etudeacadiennes/centre/instru002/20-theme.html+%22S%C3%A9bastien+Mori n%22+%22capitaine+de+navire%22 <http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:5Oa5NZuGXroJ:www0.umon cton.ca/etudeacadiennes/centre/instru002/20-theme.html+%22S%C3%A9bastien+Mor in%22+%22capitaine+de+navire%22&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk> &cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk There seems to be a relationship (wife??) mentioned in this above cached data - Elie BELOUZE. As I said in the Subject - could this possibly be Pierre MORIN-dit-BOUCHER's parents? No-one has ever had much luck pinning this down, but one of the early references says Pierre was born in the 1630s in Port Royal, Acadia, and not in France as everyone assumes. Could he perhaps have been born on ship? I know the name Sebastien is passed down in many of Pierre's lines, was it his Father's name??? It's possible he could have been born on a ship and solely baptized in Port Royal. The fact that there are other ship's Captains in the family (Pierre's son Jacques for one) make this a hint we shouldn't ignore, I believe. For your knowledge, also, I came across the original reference in historian Marcel Trudel's English writings. Actually, I'm not sure if these are his English writings or his French work translated. Do any of you other MORIN-dit-BOUCHER ancestors know anything about this man and any possible connections? David Alexander ("Al") DOHERTY (descended from Pierre MORIN-dit-BOUCHER through my Mother Marion Rita {MORIN} DOHERTY).
Cousins It looks like the name police struck again. The only Fruge family I could find in DOBR or ADNO was Joseph & his sibs. Frige(r) seems to be standard when discussing Marie. Does anyone have a list of Non-Acadian on the Britiana? Possible Maryland reference? Can we check Avollyes in case she settled there. Fort Toulouse (near present day Mongomery Ala) & Mobile lookups please. More likely she is from there. Other than Marie we do not have Friger entries until 1830-1840 in SWLA? A (long stretch?) possibility In ADNO v 2 p 208-209 is the Moget family that has a dit FrOge. Jean & Marie Robinet have 4 daughters. Angelique which is also used by Marie's children & Grandchildren. Could Marie be Marie Louise which is also used by the family? The two other sisters are Marguerite Justice or Marie Francoise. Any Ideas? Did I miss any possibilities? Paul Le B l'Ascension Louisiane

Once again, looking for documentation -- there seems to be an inordinate amount of undocumented, contradictory information on these folks: I discovered that I had in my database an apparent error, regarding what I think are two different Marie Louise Doucets who each married a Fontenot. (I had them with the same birth/death dates.) They could be the same person, who married first one brother then the next -- but at this point I'm so confused I don't want to make that assumption. Here's what I have -- NONE of it is documented, so make corrections where you see them -- and I'd be much obliged if you could post the source for your information, which I will place in my database so others will have access to the correct information as well. 1) Marie Louise Doucet, b. ca. 1737 in Mobile, m. Pierre Fontenot ca 1755. Pierre was son of Jean Louise and Louise (Henry) Fontenot, and was born in 1727 in Mobile and died 15 Sep 1811 in Opelousas. 2) Marie Louise Doucet, b. 20 Mar 1753 in Mobile, d. 17 Oct 1819 in Opelousas, m. 16 Apr 1768 in Mobile to Henri Fontenot. Henri was Pierre's brother, and was born in 1742 in Mobile and d. 14 Sep 1813 in Opelousas. Can anyone clarify? Many thanks, Gordon
