David Wayne Whipple April 11, 1973 - August 8, 2010 Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, for David Wayne Whipple, 37, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2010 in Lafayette. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Reverend Thomas Habetz, Associate Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Suzzette and Oren Smith. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing "Be Not Afraid", "On Eagles' Wings", "Taste and See" and "I Can Only Imagine" for the services. Survivors include his beloved wife, Casie Worsham Whipple of Lafayette; his daughter, Caroline Jane Whipple of Lafayette; his mother, Barbara Whipple Buetow and her husband Carl of Lafayette; his sister, Rainni Comeaux and her husband Al of Lafayette; his nieces, Casey Landry, Jennifer Comeaux, Keri and Stella Neuville; his nephews, Scott Whipple, Justin Neuville, Camryn Abshire and Gavin Whipple; his half sister, Katie and his half brother, Scott. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin LeRoy Whipple and his brother, Scott James Whipple. David was a lifelong resident of Lafayette and graduated from Teurlings Catholic High School in 1991. He had a great passion for music and loved playing instruments. He was a loving, genuine person, who never met a stranger and had a wonderful sense of humor. David's pride and joy was his daughter Caroline. He was a loving husband and an amazing dad. David will be greatly missed by family, his many friends and all who came to love and know him. He was in the military & received a purple heart. It's still in my mothers china cabinet. I'm not sure if he received any other awards. He lost his hearing in the war & I know was shot numerous times. He lost his sight some years later when I was a young girl. New Found cousine Kristen's Grandmother Helen Bourg married Lawrence Daigle probably in Lafourche LA. Helen's parents were John Bourg & Valerie/Aurore Hebert. Helen had many siblings and their family carried the disease, Osteogenesis Imperfecta. His presentation will be on the historical ecology of Louisiana beginning from ca. 1519. In his presentation we will view the Last Natural Delta of the Mississippi River through the eyes of the early scientists as a vast seaward advancing arc stretching from Vermillion Bay's Southwest Pass to the Rigolets; filled with majestic cypress, endless marshes, parakeets and bison, protected by miles of offshore oyster reefs, and teaming with schools of white shrimp. He will end his presentation with his concern associated with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Nathalie Dajko, PhD is Visiting Assistant Professor at Tulane University, New Orleans in the departrnents of Anthropology and French & Italian. She received her BA in anthropology at UNLV in 2002 and her MA and PhD at Tulane University in 2005 and 2009 respectively, both in linguistic anthropology. Her dissertation was a study of Louisiana French as it is spoken by Cajuns and Indians in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes. Her topic will be "The French language of the Lafourche Basin" The seminar will be attended by book vendors offering history and genealogy selections. The Society will also have its publications available for purchase including the release of Lafourche Country III. Participants and members are invited to bring their family history charts which will be put on display.
