Terry An extreme search for this record conducted by several people over the last 15 years has come up empty. It is assumed if there was a marriage it took place at the Little Red Church. Rita, Thank you. This is very helpful. Did Volume 1 include a specific church reference? I have heard of another reference, "Diocese of Mobile: 1718 Baptisms No. 1, Page 25." My guess is that this is the actual church record book from which Volume 1 drew it's information. Did Volume 1 list this reference or another for entry 227? In liturgical terms, an octave is an eight-day series of observances that begins with a feast day and ends with another. In this instance, the octave begins with the Solemnity of Christmas, on December 25th, and concludes with the Feast of Mary, Mother of God, on January 1. Pierre Aucoin died within the octave, that is, sometime between December 26 and December 31. I may answered my own question about the "octave de Noel" by reading ALL of the corrections Paul posted-- mea culpa -- that is, if the Pierre Aucoin who married Marguerite Dupuis is the same as the son below of Pierre Aucoin who married Madeleine Bourg. I don't have these family pages so I may not be totally clear on this. Pierre Aucoin who married Madeleine Bourg -- his death date is corrected by White-- translation w/ my notes in brackets: p. 49 ([corrected] Aug. 2007) The same family: a. Pierre. Instead of "died before the first of Dec 1757," read [substitute] "died/buried [according to the] Quebec [parish] register 27/28 Jan. 1758 at about 60 years [old] (sic)" so the "octave" date must be around the end of December if this Pierre Aucoin above died one month after the other Pierre Aucoin. and I should have translated that White thinks this is the same Pierre "EVEN IF," not simply "if" his age in the act of his burial [burial record] is strongly exaggerated -- if Google translate is correct, that is. :) Here are the rest of the notes -- I may be over-explaining but I'm sure there are some on the list who have not worked w/these volumes. For those who own them or are copying pages for their own use -- refer to or copy some of the pages after "ciii" for keys to SAW's abbreviations & you will find they become sort of a second language to you once you work w/them a bit. p. 49 ([corrected] Sept 2003) The same family: Add, after "Rg Calais (Picardie)": "Rg civil Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de- Calais)" and «Rg civil Calais (Pas-de-Calais)». [SAW is adding civil register sources from France here -- Rg is his abbreviation for French word for "register," parish (church) registers unless he specifies civil registers. my notes in brackets. I'm not fluent but I think I got the general idea. Feel free to correct me, anyone. DGFA note p. 50: In January, 1759, there were at the city of Quebec two Aucoin families in which the head had the first name Pierre-- that of Pierre [Aucoin] and Elisabeth Breau, and that of Pierre [Aucoin] and Marguerite Dupuis. The two Pierres lost their lives during the smallpox epidemic. The one who died during the octave of Christmas 1757* is well identified as the spouse of Elisabeth Breau. We think that the other, the one who died one month later, should be the spouse of Marguerite Dupuis, the same [the same one as her spouse] if his age in the act of his burial [burial record] is strongly exaggerated. *See "octave" in the Catholic Encyclopedia online at: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11204a.htm It's a day associated w/Christmas liturgy but it's kinda long & confusing. Maybe someone who knows more about liturgy can give us an approximate date, or we can find it in Drouin or other records. ________________________________ From: Paul L LeBlanc <pleblan@aim.com> To: acadian@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, October 11, 2010 9:14:41 AM Subject: [ACADIAN] Parents of Marguerite Dupuis who married abt 1735 (16) Pierre Aucoin? Joseph threw his lot in with the Acadians in France. He was from Morbihan so he may have know the families on Belle-Isle. In 1784 at Nantes he marries Anne Aucoin (Pierre & Marguerite Dupuis) In 1786 at Ascension Church (Donaldsonville) we have the birth of their son also Joseph. Later that year at Assumption Church he remarries to Gretrude Michel. Do you know how they got to Louisiane? I cannot find Joseph in Hebert Acadian families.... or Reider & Reider Crew & Passangers... On La Ville d'Archangel are many of the Aucoins could Anne have been mistakenly listed as a daughter? There are a dozen men including two Aucoins who were not on the departure list but were issued equipment after arrivial. Joseph was a cobbler (shoemaker). I wonder if the Spanish were planning for him to stay in New Orleans? Any Ideas? Gordon, The surname is found as Lacobie in the Lafayette, Louisiana area. My former brother-in-law was one. There are plenty of them still residing in that area. When the Lacobie/Lacobee first settled in Louisiana, they settled in and around DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. The other spelling variations I sent you were the corruptions found in Southwest Louisiana Records. > Thanks for all the help -- given the record where it's called > "Lockerbie" I'm inclined to think that was the original name, as > that's a known Scottish surname... > > cheers, > > g > > > > On Oct 9, 2010, at 5:18 PM, jatrahanusa@catholic.org wrote: > >> Lescobie >> >> Also found as: >> LACOBIE >> LACOBEE >> LACOBI >> LACOBRES >> LACOBY >> >> Perhaps this Fred LACOBIE/LACOBEE is of the same family.
