Karen & List, From the info you sent, I can see sthere is a different spelling "Daniau" for Vincent. Mardha There is a JB and Augustin Bergeron on the 1763 prisoner list for Halifax. It is more likely it is son & father with their families. They stopped at St-Domingue to change ships & pick up a few relatives. JB still had card money to turn in upon arrival in New Orleans so also implies Halifax . Were all the Acadian prisoners on the Keep now Georges Island in the harbor. The French name for the island was Ile Raquette (snowshoe island). The old French name for the harbor was Chibouquetou. Were there other camps on the north shore? -----Original Message----- From: mladner P & everyone, Yes, I believe that must be the one I found. Seems to me the Broussard & Bergeron were in Santo Domingo in his article. Maybe not. My eyes tire very easily and blur. I have a sort of mystery I suppose. Years ago my Father in law told his grandson, my nephew that Edmire/Elmire Damien b1845, bt, Thibodaux Church was from the Isle of Pines. She married a Bergeron in 1864 in Houma according to my records My nephew was very young then. I wonder if he told him "her family was from the Isle of Pines. Could that be? The time period doesn't fit the exiles to Santo Domingo. My nephew said he pronounced "Damien" like "Diaan" . Was wondering if this may be aa "dit" name somewhere along the line. The age is right and, outside of this one occurrence, I have found no records for an Ossite Bergeron, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Bergeron and Catherine Caissy. She would have gone to live with Jean-Baptiste after the death of Augustin. Catherine Caissy, widow of Jean-Baptiste Bergeron, died before the 1769 census and her orphaned children were scattered among relatives. -----Original Message----- From: mladner I have been searching on line ... Marsha, There is a submission at FamilySearch 's IGI which gives Jean Baptiste Adolph Danion's birth as 20 Aug 1819 in Plattenville, Assumption Parish & his parents as Vincent Danion & Victorine Dugas. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/25mec88 No sources but it's a clue to pursue. There is a community in SW La. called "Pine Island" (NW of Jennings), not that it makes sense for a family in Assumption Parish to be from there, but just thought I'd throw it out there. P & everyone, Yes, I believe that must be the one I found. In 2003 Roger Rozendal researched the Canadian Card Money that was turned in at New Orleans to be sent to France for redemption Is this the one you are looking for? =========================================== From: Roger Rozendal 22) JEAN BPT. BERGERON Jean-Baptiste Bergeron, born ca 1730, son of Augustin Bergeron (White p. 122) and Marie Dugas (White p. 566), married ca 1750 Catherine Caissy dit Roger, born ca 1736, daughter of Michel Caissy (White p. 310) and his first wife, Catherine Poirier (White p. 1337). On the 12 August 1763 prisoner list at Halifax is found (Jehn p. 249): Jean Bergeron, wife, four children These may be: Jean-Baptiste Bergeron age 33 Catherine Caissy, his wife age 27 Madeleine, daughter age 13 Jean-Baptiste, son age 9 Charles, son age 5 Joseph Caissy age 18, brother of Catherine Jean-Baptiste and his family came to Louisiana with Joseph Broussard where on 5 April 1765, Jean-Baptiste received a receipt for 700 livres in billetes in Canadian money (Receipts). They then settled at Attakapas where on 31 May 1765, a daughter Marie-Anne was born. Unfortunately, she died on 31 August 1765 (SM CH.: Slave Baptism Register v. 1, p. 2, #4-A; SM CH.: Bapt. v. 1, p. 9- Hebert v. 1A pp.53-54). Then on 2 November 1765, Jean Baptiste was buried (SM CH.: Slave Funeral Register v. 1, #35; SM CH.: v. 1, p. 16-Hebert v. 1A p. 53). After Jean-Baptiste¹s death, his wife Catherine Caissy fled to Cabanocey where in the 1766 Cabanocey census is found: Catherine Quessy, widow Bergeron, age 30 Jean Baptiste, son 12 Charles, son age 10 (sic) Magdelaine, daughter age 16 Ossite, daughter (sic) age 14 Josephe Quessy, brother age 21 I think the Ossite Bergeron is Marie Bergeron, orphan of Michel Bergeron and Marie-Jeanne Hebert, who came to Louisiana with Augustin Bergeron, her uncle. The age is right and, outside of this one occurrence, I have found no records for an Ossite Bergeron, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Bergeron and Catherine Caissy. She would have gone to live with Jean-Baptiste after the death of Augustin. Marie Bergeron, orphan of Michel Bergeron and Marie-Jeanne Hebert, married 6 November 1767 (Cabanocey Marriages) Pierre Bourgeois, born ca 1747, son of Paul Bourgeois (White p. 262) and his first wife Marie-Josephe Brun (White p. 293). In the 1769 Cabanocey census is found: Family #94 Pierre Bourgeois age 29 (sic) Marie Bergeron, wife age 17 Pierre, son age 1 (mo.) Catherine Caissy, widow of Jean-Baptiste Bergeron, died before the 1769 census and her orphaned children were scattered among relatives. -----Original Message----- From: mladner <marshaladner@att.net> To: acadian@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, Dec 20, 2010 5:05 pm Subject: Re: [ACADIAN] Isle of Pines/Paper Money? Paul: Here is my descent from Joseph Broussard dit Beausoleil & Agnes Thibodeau Amand Broussard & Helene Landry Joseph dit Josaphat Broussard & Marie Francoise Trahan Annette Broussard & Marin Blanchard Marie Aspasie Blanchard & Jean Baptiste Francois Legrand (my great great grandparents) I am nearly finished writing my family history of the Legrand family of France and Louisiana. Would welcome hearing from anyone descended from them. They were not Acadian, but certainly married into a number of Cajun families in the Breaux Bridge/Henderson area.
