Am in need of some help with a small portrait in my possession. Years ago when I was given this small oval portrait I was told it was my husband's Grandmother. It was given to me by a member of his Babin-Bergeron family. I have ruled it out as being a paternal Grandmother. If it is a portrait of his maternal Grandmother, it would be of Antoinette Marie Babin, b Feb. 9, 1890 in Houma, La. Antoinette married Robert O. Bergeron Jan. 13, 1907 in Houma. She died Aug. 17, 1924 in New Orleans. La. and was buried in Houma, La. at age 34. What my problem is...the mode of her dress in the portrait. It seems to me the mode of dress is earlier than what would be worn in that time period. Does anyone know where I can search or have any ideas to find period outfits? I can send a copy of the portrait if that would be helpful. Thanks, Marsha

There are about a dozen ways to write a long O in French. We probably have used most of them depending upon where the writer was schooled. . These are two different families Antoine married Marie Mercier (Daniel Le Blanc's stepdaughter about 1662. Nicholas Babineau married Marie-Marguerite Granger about 1687 and Jean Babineau marries Marguerite Boudrot about 1691. Jean & Marguerite only have daughters so any Basbineau is descenant of Nicholas. Of the Babins exiled in Maryland most settled on the River or upper Bayou Lafouche. Some of Antrone's children went to the Opelousas area. Marie's family was in St-Martin in 1770 and was back on the river (St-James) by 1778, In Hebert's Southwest LA there are over1400 references for Babin. For Babinot 58; Babineaux over 2100; Babineau almost 100; Babinaud over 200, plus about 100 with other spellings Hope this helps Paul -----Original Message----- From: mladner Hi, Oh please don't confuse me further..smile.
