Hi, Paul! I don't know what happened in Cyberspace, but when I originally sent that email those spouses were with their respective mates, and there were spaces between thos last three lines from Michel BOUDROT to me. :o( That was WEIRD! Anyway, okay, let me see (it's been awhile since I've worked on these lines, so if I have something wrong, thanks for letting me know!). I do remember working on a lot of the marriages in my early years of gen. research through the Loiselle Marriage Index microfilm rolls. I remember Gareau being one of those families. Recently I have been attaching the records when I can find them on Ancestry (I've been using PRDH for records older than 1800 -- it's a lot easier to search than Ancestry). Me to Memere (my great-grandma) is a no-brainer. Memere's father was Lucien BOUDREAU, his d.c. and baptismal record state his parents were Charles BOUDREAU & Marguerite StONGE. He was b. 1 Mar 1853 & baptized the same day at St-Cyprien in Napierville, Québec. I also found him in the U.S. Censuses in Kankakee County with his parents. Charles BOUDREAU & Marguerite StONGE's marriage record state that her parents were Joseph GAREAU-StONGE & Marguerite LANDRY. They were m. 13 Jan 1846 at St-Cyprien, Napierville, Québec. Marguerite StONGE was b. 16 Dec 1825 in L'Acadie, Québec & baptized at Ste-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie the same day. Marguerite LANDRY & Joseph GAREAU dit St. ONGE m. 18 Jan 1825 at St-Cyprien in Napierville, Québec. Her parents are listed as Jean-Baptiste LANDRY & Isabelle HÉBERT of St-Cyprien. Marguerite was born & baptized 16 Oct 1807 at Ste-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie in L'Acadie, Québec. Isabelle (Élisabeth) HÉBERT & Jean-Baptiste LANDRY were m. 28 Jan 1799 at St-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie in L'Acadie, Québec. Her parents were listed as Jacques HÉBERT & Marie TRAHAN. Élisabeth was b. 12 Feb 1778 and baptized 15 Feb 1778 at St-Philippe in Laprairie, Québec. Jacques HÉBERT & Marie TRAHAN were married 18 Sep 1769 at St-Philippe in Laprairie, Québec. His parents were listed as Pierre HÉBERT & Marie-Madeleine GAUDET. PRDH Does not have Pierre HÉBERT's parents, but states that he and M-Madeleine GAUDET were married "Before 1732-05-29 in Acadie". PRDH does list Madeleine's parents as Claude GAUDET & Marguerite BELOU. More than likely I got Pierre's parents' names from "Ancestors of Exzelia Elizabeth BOUDREAU", but I don't have it with me at this time, to confirm that (it's in storage in Washington at the moment). Does SAW have anything on the marriage of M-Madeleine GAUDET, daughter of Claude GAUDET & Marguerite BELOU? ~~Bren http://www.myspace.com/brendahebert http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/daSinga ________________________________ From: Paul L LeBlanc <pleblan@aim.com> To: acadian@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, January 20, 2011 9:25:36 AM Subject: Re: [ACADIAN] Michel BOUDROT to Brenda Hebert Brenda Would you check something for me. -----Original Message----- From: R. Martin Guidry Bonjour Cousins, The second decade of the twenty-first century has arrived. I hope everyone had a nice holiday season and that 2011 delivers health, happiness and prosperity to all. We are having our first 2011 meeting of Les Guédry d'Asteur next month. In about a week I will be sending out additional information on our Guédry-Labine and Petitpas Reunion on 8 October 2011 in Cut Off, Louisiana. We are actively planning the Reunion activities at this time. Les Guédry d'Asteur Meeting - Saturday, 12 Feb 2011 On Saturday, 12 February 2011 we will have a meeting of Les Guédry d'Asteur from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at the CODOFIL Office in Lafayette, LA. See below for directions to the meeting. At this meeting we will plan the activities and exhibits for our Reunion as well as enjoy fellowship and a nice Cajun meal together. In 2010 we have meetings in Lafayette, Rayne and Galliano, Louisiana In 2011 I would like to continue having meetings in different areas of South Louisiana where Guidry families reside (e.g., along Bayou Lafourche, Houma, Lafayette, Church Point/Crowley/Rayne, Lake Charles and possibly the Golden Triangle in SE Texas). To do so, I need someone from the meeting area to help me secure a meeting facility and advertise the meeting locally. If interested in helping to arrange a meeting in your hometown, please email at guidryrm@cox.net and we'll set up the meeting. Grand Réveil Acadien / Great Acadian Awakening A major Acadian celebration will take place in South Louisiana during the first two weeks of October 2011. Grand Réveil Acadien will be a festival occurring throughout south Louisiana from 7 - 16 October 2011. There will be lectures, concerts, family reunions, seminars and other activities. Concluding the Grand Réveil Acadien will be the the world-renown Festivals Acadiens et Creoles, showcasing Cajun and Zydeco music, in Lafayette, LA on 15-16 October 2011. There will be activities at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville including a reenactment of Acadian families arriving in the Attakapas Country on Bayou Teche. The Guédry-Labine and Petitpas family will have a major Reunion along Bayou Lafourche in Cut Off, LA on 8 October 2011. Many visitors and dignitaries from throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe already have announced that they are attending Grand Réveil Acadien. Visit this link to learn more about Grand Réveil Acadien and keep posted on the latest announcements: http://www.gra2011.org/ (And, now for a brief commercial. When in South Louisiana, be sure and visit the Acadian Memorial and the Museum of the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, LA. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. While there, don't forget to view our Guédry crest in the courtyard of the Memorial. I am the current president of the Acadian Memorial Foundation and invite each of you see this outstanding tribute to the Acadian people of Louisiana.) Family Momentos For those of you that attended the Guédry-Labine and Petitpas Reunion in Bathurst and did not get all of the momentos that you'd like and for the rest that would like a momento or two of our family, we still have some items for sale. You can visit our Guédry-Labine Family website and order items as ink pens, keychains, Reunion lapel pins and Reunion refrigerator magnets there. The website address is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~guedrylabinefamily/merchandise.html Not all items are specific to the 2009 Reunion. Some (as the ink pens and keychains) simply have 'Les Guédry d'Asteur' on them with no mention of the Reunion. In addition, to the above items we have T-shirts (Reunion info on them), baseball caps ('Les Guédry d'Asteur' only) and tablets of memo paper (Reunion info on them). If you have any questions, please email me and I will get the answers. Note: The above website link also has links to the CafePress where you can purchase numerous items with our family crest on them. And you decide which of these names you would like on the crest: Geddry, Guedry, Guidry, Guildry, Jeddry, LaBean, Labine, LaBine & Petitpas. La Verdure de Mirligueche - The Story of the Guidry dit Labine Family in North America At the Reunion several folks wanted to purchase Mark Labine's history and genealogy of the Guédry-Labine family ("La Verdure de Mirligueche - The Story of the Guidry dit Labine Family in North America"); however, we ran out of copies for sale. Recently Mark republished his superb book and it is available on Amazon.com for $***.** with free shipping. I encourage you take a look at this book on Amazon at: http://www.amazon.com Just type 'labine guidry' in the search engine at the top of the page and Mark's book should be the first entry to appear. Our Newsletter 'Generations' Be on the lookout for the next edition of our newsletter "Generations". It should be out during March. I got a sneak preview of some of the features and articles and again it will be outstanding. We are always looking for articles for the newsletter. Why not write an article on some aspect of your line of the family or on an interesting ancestor in your line? It can be as short or long as you desire. We can help proofread and edit it if you would like. Do you have any older photo of some member of your line that we could publish in the newsletter? Email it to me along with a brief description of the person(s), approximate date and the activity occurring (if pertinent). That Dreaded Membership Renewal Reminder It's the beginning of a new idea and with that comes all of your journal and society renewal notices. I encourage each of you to renew your Membership in Les Guédry d'Asteur or, if you are not a member, to become one. Our dues for 2011 remain very low at $** for a family and $* for an individual. A Membership Application is available on the Guedry-Labine Family website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~guedrylabinefamily/membership.html Here you have the option of paying using PayPal or you can print the application and send it with your payment through the U.S. mail system. I have also included an application at the end of this memo. No organization can operate without funds and Les Guédry d'Asteur is no exception. The several projects that we do to promote our Guédry-Labine and Petitpas family cost money. These include hosting mini-Reunions and large Reunions as the Bathurst Reunion, donating family history books to key libraries, publishing our newsletter, hosting our two websites, providing family momentos and publishing a family cookbook. We need your help to continue these activities. At this time our treasury is very low - as a major activity such as the recent Guédry-Labine & Petitpas Reunion requires large expenditures. Consider renewing or joining at the dit Jovial, dit Labine or dit Grivois levels or make a donation above the basic membership level. Your help will be appreciated and well used. Looking forward to another great year of Les Guédry d'Asteur, Marty Martin Guidry 6139 North Shore Drive Baton Rouge, LA 70817 225-755-1915 (home) 225-202-2478 (cell) guidryrm@cox.net Les Guidry d'Asteur, Inc. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~guedrylabinefamily http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~guidryrm/Guedry-Labine DIRECTIONS TO THE 6 FEBRURY 2010 MEETING AT LAFAYETTE, LA: >From I-10 take the I-49/Hiway 90 exit and go south (toward Lafayette). You'll now be on the Evangeline Thruway. Continue on the Thruway until you reach Jefferson Street (about 5 or 6 red lights; there's a Burger King on the right corner). Turn right on Jefferson Street and continue through the underpass and three red lights. The first street after the 3rd red light is W. Main Street. Turn right on W. Main Street and go one block to the stop sign. The courthouse will be immediately ahead of you. Turn left onto Buchanan Street and then make a quick right back onto W. Main Street on the left side of the courthouse. The CODOFIL office is on your left at 217 W. Main Street. It's a two-story, red brick, Victorian-style, narrow building with a green balcony on the second floor. Park anywhere in the area as parking meters are not patrolled on Saturday and Sunday. We'll meet in the reception area on the first floor. -- Martin Guidry 6139 North Shore Drive Baton Rouge, LA 70817 225-202-2478 (cell) guidryrm@cox.net Les Guédry d'Asteur, Inc. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~guedrylabinefamily http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~guidryrm/Guedry-Labine http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~guidryrm/clotiaux http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~guidryrm/butaud

History of the First United Methodist Church: The first Methodist circuit rider in this area was a Virginian, Elisha W. Bowman. Reverend Bowman was appointed "Missionary to Louisiana" with instructions to begin in New Orleans. He arrived there in 1805 and preached on the streets of that city on three Sundays. Reverend Bowman left New Orleans with the intention of reaching a settlement of Americans two hundred miles to the west and northwest of New Orleans. His journey to this settlement named Opelousas took him through a cypress swamp, four lakes, and a large bay. He landed near the mouth of what he called "River O'Tash" (Teche). About eighty miles up the stream he reached a large French Settlement (Probably St. Martinville), crossed Vermilion River and finally came to the Opelousas country. In 1805 Reverend Bowman established the original Methodist circuit of Louisiana, and formed the first Methodist congregation of the "state of Opelousas. " Among the circuit riders to serve the area in the next few years were: Thomas Lasley, Benjamin Edge, John Henningen, and John S. Ford. John R. McIntosh was appointed to "Lower Vermilion". This circuit probably included Vermilionville in 1837. Records show that by 1845 the Methodist congregation in Vermilion- ville (Now Lafayette) had grown sufficiently large to require the services of a regular minister. The Reverend William F. Brown, a pioneering minister, was appointed to serve New Town (New Iberia) and Lafayette. There had been no church building, as such, in Lafayette until 1858. Prior to that time services were held in private homes. Mr. Benjamin Porter Paxtin donated a site at the corner of Congress and Washington streets upon which a church was soon built. The first trustees were Gideon Stephens, James Higginbotham, and Dr. John W. Chevis. In the years that followed the church continued to grow. During the Civil War the First Methodist Church was used to accommodate the wounded soldiers. Years later, under the Leadership of Reverend Isaac T. Reames, the church was renovated and remodeled. Reverend Reames, a devoted and faithful shepherd did most of the work himself. He was responsible for the building of the parsonage at the corner of St. John and Congress Streets. This church continued to serve the congregation until 1925 when the present building was erected. Many people who are at present members of this church recall the 'little church on Washington Street"; many attended Sunday School and church services there. It was during the pastorate of Reverend Harry W. Rickey, that sentiment was created for the building of a new church. This senti- ment grew stronger and more determined under the leadership of Reverend Leon I. McCain who became pastor in 1921 and culminated in the present larger and more imposing structure situated on the corner of Lee and Main Streets. -----Original Message----- From: acvachon@videotron.ca To: acadian@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, Jan 17, 2011 4:29 pm Subject: [ACADIAN] Mary GAUME/GUMS/GOMME Hello everyone, Did someone have the exact date for the wedding of Etienne Dupre LeJEUNE and Mary GAUME/GUMS/GOMME? Hi Paul, I also have an Olivier Thibodeaux married to Marie Madeleine Broussard but that line didn't lead back to a Boudreaux. This Olivier Thibodeaux's parents were Charles Thibodeaux and Marie Francoise Comeaux. Olivier 's second wife was Agnes Brun. That information came from Roger Rozendal I found the Olivier Thibodeaux married to Marie Magdalene Broussard that leads back to Michel Boudreaux through the Trahan line in Selected Acadian and Louisiana Church Records Vol. 1 by Rev. Bodin. I've checked for more information in this book and also in Vol. II and I can't locate anything else. In some of the families I had gotten lazy about my sourcing and I could be wrong.
