    1. [ACADIAN] Fwd: Difference in a letter in a name. -- the story
    2. Paul L LeBlanc via
    3. Thanks Eula This family was "Waiting on the dock" when the Acadians arrived. I question some of the story The church in St-Martinville was founded in 1765. Before that the priests from Pointe- Coupee did mission visits or couples went to the priest. (like Pierre Guidry marriage. Did the couple go down the river to the Pointee-Coupee church or did the priest go up the river to San-Luis-de-Natchez) Anybody see anything else? -----Original Message----- From: Eula <[email protected]> Story in difference in a letter in a name.   (r) spellings.   de l’Homme  -  Delhomme  -  Delhommer   The first de l’Homme came as a French Military OFFICIAL FROM KING LOUIS NAVY.  He was Chevalier Charles Joseph de l’Homme born 1721.  He came to Louisiana from Alsace/Lorraine France.  He married Laurence Chauvin Delery of New Orleans daughter of Joseph Delery and Francoise Leblanc.  They married in St. Martin du Tours Catholic Church St. Martinville, LA and remained in Louisiana thus the beginning of the Delhomme name in Louisiana.   Their first child Esme (Edme) Joseph married to Jeanne Antoinette De Glapion  (Sister-in-law to the famous Marie Laveau—Jeanne’s brother changed his name to just Duminy Glapion and  lived with and fathered only 8 children – N.O. Tour guides say 15 children but the St, Louis Cathedral church records indicate only 8 children –with only  2 only surviving to adulthood.)   Esme Joseph was noted to be a drunker, gambler, vile person and wife beater so his next two brothers Francois Joseph and Antoine Billion changed to spelling of their name with the adding of the R at the end pronouncing it in French as Del Hommer.   Esme Joseph and his younger brother Alexander Charles  kept the de l’Homme name.   The court records and church records of recorders just combined the spelling to what you see today.  No matter which way you spell the name we all descend from Chevalier Charles Joseph de l’Homme.   Alexander Charles married Felecite Pradier of St, MARTINVILLE and they moved to St,. Martinville area  and Esme remained in the New Orleans area.  Francois  and Antoine Billion both had their plantations where the current Bonne Carrie spillway is located.

    3. Hello - I am wondering if anyone has gone through the death list of LaFaille FeFaye in Canada looking for a possible father to Francois. I am going through the list now but I am afraid I should have paid attention during m 8 years of French in grade and high school and the Priest should have taken the Rienhert Program of penmanship:)! Just a thought. 3. Sorry. As we get older we make more & more typos. Thanks for catching. That was a different Lucille born exactly ten years later. Retried the CD no luck both names are different. Tried 1886 with Lucille, Lucie, Lucy, Champagne luci* & champ* and checked partial spellings. Think it is time to eye scan of paper books. Anyone have easy access?

    1. [ACADIAN] Anne BREAU m. Jean Baptiste DUPUIS
    2. katheriot via
    3. In case any of you missed this change. I have been corresponding with someone confused about the parentage of Anne BREAU, who is listed in Stephen A. White's Dictionnaire généalogique des familles acadiennes on p. 275 as BREAU #3 h [later i], which has: Anne BREAU, daughter of Pierre [sic] BREAU & his 2nd wife Anne LE BLANC [sic], born 31 Jan 1710, baptized 6 Apr 1710 (Grand Pré Register). Sponsors: Jean THÉRIOT (who signed) & Anne DUGAS. She married around 1729 to Jean-Baptiste DUPUIS, son of Jean & Anne RICHARD. This is one of the cases which have been corrected from the mitochondrial DNA results of a descendant. SAW demoted the 1710 female child to an unnamed one, and added this Anne to another family, born around 1708. Stephen A. White, Ajouts et Corrections, http://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-ceaac/files/umcm-ceaac/wf/wf/pdf/cor-dict.pdf, for p. 273. Famille d'Antoine Breau (2) Il faut ensuite ajouter une nouvelle notice «k» comme suit: «k. Anne (selon S.A. White) n v 1708 (Rc Port Tobacco [Maryland] 1763, Liste des arrivés en Louisiane 1768 60a); m v 1729 Jean-Baptiste DUPUIS (Jean & Anne Richard)». Translation: It is necessary thus to add a new entry "k" as follows: k. Anne (according to S. A. White) born around 1708, daughter of Antoine (2) BREAU & Marguerite BABIN (Anne was on the 1763 census at Port Tobacco, MD; on list of arrivals in Louisiana in 1768, age 60 years). She married around 1729 to Jean-Baptiste DUPUIS, son of Jean DUPUIS & Anne RICHARD. The accompanying note for p. 274 has: Stephen A. White, Ajouts et Corrections, http://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-ceaac/files/umcm-ceaac/wf/wf/pdf/cor-dict.pdf, for p. 274. Translation: Add a new Note of S. A. White, as follows: iii. Originally from Port-Royal, Jean-Baptiste Dupuis settled at Pisiguit on the occasion of his marriage with a girl from that place. At the time of this wedding, the family of Antoine Breau and Marguerite Babin was the only one of that name at Pisiguit to have a marriageable daughter. Our conclusion that the wife of Jean-Baptiste Dupuis must be the daughter of Antoine is supported by the routes of the Dupuis and Breau families during the Grand Dérangement. In 1755, the Dupuis were deported from Pisiguit to Maryland aboard the ship "Dolphin" with the families of Alexandre and Charles (son of Antoine) Breau (see reference above). Later, in 1768, the Dupuis went to Louisiana with the same Breaus. Still another proof that the wife of Jean-Baptiste Dupuis was the daughter of Antoine Breau and Marguerite Babin was furnished by the results of the mitochondrial DNA test of one of her descendants (haplotype J1b) (see S. A. White, "L'ADN mitochondrial des mères d'Acadie", CEA, dossiers généalogiques, divers). That indicates that Anne Breau must descend from one of the daughters of Jean Gaudet, either Marie or Françoise. Now, Françoise Gaudet was the maternal grandmother of Marguerite Babin. 3. Googling "Lucy Champagne Theriot" brought up an obituary for her daughter Rose Theriot Blanchard (1922-2008) which includes: "She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Blanchard; her parents, Eugene and Lucy Champagne Theriot; her brothers, Mitchell, Walter, Wallace, Lloyd, Homer and Alton Theriot; her sisters, Lena Laviolette, Marie Dutile, and Eva Guilbeaux; and a grandson, Dru Duplantis." http://www.pellerinfuneralhome.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=942761 That should help find family in census or other records? It * probably* will have parents' names, depending on if the reporting relative knew the (hopefully, correct) info. Death certificates can be ordered very inexpensively at the site for anyone who died 50 or more years ago. (If death were about 1956 or earlier, we could check the La. Deaths extracted info database at Familysearch.org -- but an actual certificate copy will give more info, anyway.) p.s. Paul, I think you made a typo in birth year below? 1886 vs. 1896?
