East Baton Rouge has moved the Genealogical collections from Bluebonnet. I will probably forget and call for "Bluebonnet Runs" but will go at the new place. New Main Library is at 7711 Goodwood Blvd. Genealogy is located on the second floor in the Special Collections Department.

Advent Season was lost to my family in the 1950s. Is there anyone who still observes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advent
yes we do at st. alphonsus catholic church. Our son Robert JOHN Jr. does at his home. Bob will not let me burn candles in our home. Since my strokes he has been afraid that I would light them in the wrong places and forget about them. From Selected Annotated Abstracts of St Mary Parish La Marriage book 1 1811-1829, 1973, Mary Elizabeth Sanders p 20-21 Thomas Newman - Anne Mason 10 Jan 1818 [156] P Ellenor Newman gives permission for her son Thomas Newman to marry; wit Chr Brien & Luke Bryer 12 jan [157] B Thomas Newman & John Richardson Gen Note Thomas Newman was a son of William Newman, a native of Pennsylvania and a son of Edward Newmanand his wife, Marguerite Grandin of Philadelphia; William Newman's wife was Ellenore Bridget Berwick, Dau of Thomas Berwick, a native of Pennsylvania who settled very early in the opelousas area and his wife Eleanore Wallace. Thomas Berwick was born ca 1740, died 1789 in what is now St Landry Paridh LA ; Eleanore Wallace was born in 1748 & died in 1815. [Files of Mrs Oray C Orgeron, Lafayette La., A descendant of this family.] William Newman & Rllenore Berwick were married in St Martin Parish in 1798 [#22 Folio D St Martin of Tours Catholic Church, St Martinville, La, New Orleans Genesis June 1972 page 277]. Christopher Brien & Luke Bryan were brothers, sons of Christopher Brien and his wife, Katherine Kimberland or Kimberly [Files of Mrs Oray C Orgeron] These brothers spelled their surname differently in St Mary Parish records.
Many thanks, Paul. One things seems clear at this point —there seems to be no evidence that the Thomas Newman who married Celestine Fontenot was the son of either of the marriages of Thomas F. Newman I (son of William and Eleanor Berwick). It seems likely, but I don’t see anything that documents that. This is a really good start — thanks again for your help. cheers, g > On Nov 30, 2014, at 2:46 PM, Paul L LeBlanc via <[email protected]> wrote: > > > Many bits & pieces. The first generation born in Louisiana seems to be Thomas Francis Newman, b. 15 April 1800 in St. Martinsville, who died around 1847, probably in Opelousas. He was the son of William and Eleanor (Berwick) Newman of Pennsylvania. Thomas married 20 Sep 1839 to Angelique Primeaux, daughter of Joseph and Marguerite (Schexnayder) Primeaux. I have one son for them, Thomas Francis Jr., and this is where things get weird. Thomas Francis Newman Jr. m. (or at least had a child by) Celestine Fontenot, who according to one source was b. in Opelousas in October of 1830. They had a child, also named Thomas, b. in August 1847 in Opelousas, who married Anna Elizabeth Doguet, d/o Etienne and Elizabeth Anne (Tangeret) Doguet. But if the birthdate for Thomas III is correct, something else has to be wrong. Assuming Thomas Francis II was the same age as his wife Celestine, he was b. ca. 1830, which would make HIS mother (Angelique Primeaux) only 11 years old at his birth. On the other hand, if he was younger — b. after 1830 — it becomes progressively more unlikely that he was the father of the Thomas Newman who was b. in 1847. I suspect that some of these Thomas Newmans (Newmen?) are the same person, and there were multiple marriages. But I can’t find any documentation supporting this. It’s also possible some of the dates are wrong, but even if they are, it still seems to be fitting too many generations in the time span to be possible. Can anyone help? Thanks, Gordon . ------------------------------- To check our Archive http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/acadian/ ------------------------------- To subscribe to the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'subscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message. Karen Lynn If you check the Mass. Archive with below, two of the 4 reports is the "To Quebec" lists Paul ===================================== There are two tapes of French Neutrals in the Felt Collection (23 & 24) (Plus earlier records mixed elsewhere) http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ArchivesSearch/RevolutionarySearch.aspx I put Gourdaux in the person name search 4 excerpts came up All were 1766. 2 were for support. 2 for help going to Quebec. Other searches may be necessary. Some documents list the family members. I wonder how they spelt the name in the other years. I had such problems finding them I had to check the different towns by year to find our other records. You may be able to look by associated families. There should be able to order copies (Marty - do we may still have the tapes at the family research center in Baton Rouge?) -----Original Message----- From: acvachon Hello, In the Acadian list of requests to move from Boston to Canada in 1766, does anyone know who the following people?
