YES. Acadia was the Canadian Maritimes & the coast of Maine. This is where we got our Acadian name. Between 1755 & 1785 we were sent where ever our "english Lords" sent us. Many were sent to the english colonies. The ones sent to Virginia ended up in england. After 1763 they went to France. Some went to Quebec either directly or from exile in New England. Some went to St-Pierre & M Some from France were sent to French Guyana. Louisiana - after Some came from Halifax (led by Broussards). In 1785 the spanish provided 7 ships to take "us" from France to Spanish Louisiana. My favorite one was a seaman who jumped ship in Tahiti & started the Polynesian branch of our families. So most Louisiana Acadian got the extra label Cajun. All peoples assimilated into our culture are called Cajuns. There are Spanish Cajun from Canary islands & New Iberia. There are also Tejas cajuns because the Sabine River wasn't a real boundry. Check to see if your library has John Mack Faragher A Great and Noble Scheme. If not it is available online. Spend the couple of extra dollars to get the hardback as it is a keeper.
Leslie: The GRA is for all Acadiens, and at last GRA 2011, we had Acadiens Descendants from all over the Globe!! The Louisiana is shown primarily to denote the Host! Lona, There were several non-related David families which settled in Louisiana in the mid-to-late 1700's. My David family arrived in Louisiana in 1766 from a 12 year exile in Snow Hill, Maryland after their deportation by the British from Grand-Pré, Acadie during Le Grand Dérangement in 1755. Over the next 5 generations this David family migrated from Convent, LA west finally settling in the Lafayette / Vermillion Parish area. The non-related Jean Baptiste David family of which you speak settled in the Opelousas area. Another non-related David family settled in the Pointe Coupee area. Steven A. Cormier's Acadians in Gray website discusses the various Louisiana David families at http://www.acadiansingray.com/Appendices-ATLAL-DAVID.htm Earl -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Lona Boudreaux via Sent: Wednesday, July 01, 2015 10:13 AM To: 'Paul L LeBlanc'; [email protected] Subject: Re: [ACADIAN] Adrien Davidwest Hi Paul, I've not been following the DAVID e-mails nor working on this line. Looked at it today and thought I would check Rocky's family. None of this may help but thought I would post anyway. According to my Family Tree Maker program Marguerite Elmire BREAUX, one of Rocky's 1st cousins 5x's removed, was married to Jean Baptiste DAVID April 26, 1832 St. Martinsville, La. Marguerite parents were Agricole and Scholastique PICOU BREAUX. Agricole was the son of Pierre Firmin and Marguerite BREAUX. Pierre is one of Rocky's paternal 7th great grandfathers. I have Jean Baptiste DAVID's parents as Jean Baptiste and Scholastique SAVOIE DAVID. According to what I have Jean Bepatiste and Marguerite both died in Opelousas. I also have some dates on this family and children's names but since I've not worked the line I don't know how accurate they are. If someone wants that information, I'm willing to post it.
