Hi Goldie A good interrupt! The name Delgardo is Spanish [or Portuguese] with a meaning like "thin, skinny" and sometimes used as a nickname or insult! My guess is that they came over on the Armada and were shipwrecked on the northern coasts as many were. Being "good" Catholics they would have met many of like mind in the north and bred happily with the locals. This could explain the frequency of the name and its variants.
