My resolution for the New Year has been to organize each member of my Family Tree. I wanted to see what information I had and what I still needed. Which brings me to my dilemma. John SMITH b. 1834 in Monquhitter, married Ann MASSIE in Lonmay on 4 June 1853. They went on to have 15 children. In 1861, John and Ann are living at Garvel Croft, Tyrie, New Pitsligo along with 4 of their children. Also listed are: John McCartney, step-father, 71, Linen Weaver and Margaret McCartney, Mother, 61. 07/04/1861 SMITH, JOHN (Census 1861 227/0B 005/00 010) By 1871 this family is living at Woodhead of Gonar, Tyrie, New Pitsligo. John MCCARTNEY, step-father is still with them but is identified as a widower. 02/04/1871 SMITH, JOHN (Census 1871 227/0B 005/0B 003) Margaret MCCARTNEY would have died sometime between 1861 and 1871. I do know that neither are related to Ann MASSIE. That leaves me to believe that they are somehow related to John SMITH, but how? I have James SMITH and Isobel LAING as John's parents according to OPR Births: 223/ 0030 0119 Monquhitter. I have checked the MI's at ANESFHS for both Margaret MCCARTNEY and Margaret RUSSEL with no luck. However, I have not checked ScotlandsPeople yet. At this point, I am open to any and all suggestions.
