Hi all Just wondering if anyone can identify the location of the Style of Tullich. It appears a few times in the Parish Registers for Glenmuick, Glengairn and Tullich but I would be interested in the exact location. Any help appreciated. This name doesn't seem to appear in the OS name books (mid 19th C), so it's precise situation is difficult to pinpoint. A similar name occurs in Gartly parish: Kirkstyle, which is possibly the equivalent of Kirkton in other parishes, i.e. the settlement around the Kirk. One definition of 'stile' given by the Concise Scots Dictionary is an area of shelter or enclosure for animals. I don't think this helps much in the case of Tullich though... In OPR records the witnesses were often close neighbours - is it possible to get a rough idea of its location using this strategy? I cannot find it shown on any map, and it does not figure in the Ordnance Survey "Index to Places" for the parish, but "The Placenames of Upper Deeside" has it as follows: "A former farm west of Cambus o' May, at the beginning of the Tullich farmlands. The Stile of Tullich was later a public house on the roadside." A suggested map reference of NO405978 would place it in what is now an area of woodland. Gavin Bell
