    3. Angela, Have a look at the 1871 census for No.4 Garvock St, Aberdeen where John Geddes b Peterhead age 7 is with mother Barbara Geddes age 42 b Peterhead a washer woman, and two older siblings Alexander and Mary. You'll find this family in 1861: 44 Roanheads, Peterhead Barbara Geddes 29 Peterhead Fishmonger Alexander Geddes son 4 Peterhead Mary Milne dau 7 Mo Peterhead The births that then strike me in the IGI are - "John Hasting 14-1-1865 Peterhead to Barbara Hasting or Geddes" - "Mary Ann Hastings 2-10-1860 Peterhead to Barbara Hastings" - "Alexander Geddes 27-8-1857 Peterhead to Alexander Geddes & Barbara Hastie" while the IGI also shows that Alexander Geddes & Barbara Hasty marr 23-3-1857 Peterhead. I suspect Alexander Geddes died early on. There's more kicking around on both the Geddes and Hastie lines, but first you've got to satisfy yourself that this John Hasting is your John Geddes. I can find the family in 1881 where John Geddes age 16 is a general labourer - not very sea-like but....! I know Morrison hasn't come into it yet, but?..... Some of the informants in my family were as good as any making things up. Howard Geddes
