Thanks Alex look forward to hearing from you as I do not seem to be able to find a death record for a Jane or Jean STEWART nee SIM which I had hoped would be easy to find as Jean definitely married James STEWART in 1801 in Aberdeen and had a daughter Helen in 1805 in Aberdeen. Jean's father was John SIM (from her marriage entry) James STEWARTS parents were James STEWART and Teresa BUYERS or BYERS. Wendy, me again Two points: 1. If Jean/Jane died before 1855 you most probably won't find a death record for her as there was no responsibility for recording it before that date. There may be a record in the parish accounts [hire of mortcloth, for example] but very few burials were recorded in the OPRs. 2. You are right to question the name of "mother" given by the grandson when Helen died. He is very unlikely to have known her but the registrar often insisted on a name however unlikely it was to be correct. We have a case that shows this fallacy very clearly. Thanks again Ray. Yes I have come across some strange entries myself where the informant did not really know the family and in one case it was totally wrong. Wife deceased grand uncle of mine was given as Bell Laidlaw when it should have been Christina Cameron. You could not get further from the correct name if you tried :) Wendy -----Original Message----- From: Ray Hennessy Sent: Thursday, March 27, 2014 1:51 PM To: Aberdeen List Subject: Re: [ABERDEEN] James STEWART and Jane "Jean" SIM m.1801 Aberdeen Wendy, me again Two points: 1.
