I notice that Janet has a similar response to the reason why families had several children die in a short space of time. Some years ago, I read a Parish record Film , ( I think not Aberdeenshire ), where the Church Recorder had mentioned a wide spread measles outbreak in the area. One of the branches of my Aberdeenshire family contracted T.B. resulting in the death of 5 children up to age 20 yrs. Considering the crowded living conditions, that many lived in, in those times, it is surprising that so many large families actually survived. REASON: I have reason to believe that incorrect information has been posted on their site. I am trying to fill-in some of my branches and here is what I am looking for; The family of James Innes and Barbara Moir or Stewart. I do know that this family is buried in the Kirkmichael Cemetary with the Libindx No: Km73. The dates of their births does not correspond with their actual dates. Here are the actual dates. 1)Alexander Innes 2 Oct.1808 2)Elizabeth Innes 10 June 1810 3)Thomas Innes 19 March 1813 4)Helen Innes 12 December 1815 5)Elspet Innes 5 May 1818 6)Janet Innes 2 July 1821 not shown 7)James Innes 16 May 1823 not shown There, apparently, was a William Innes but was unable to find him. The dates of birth, above, were from the IGI. These comments were based on the 1892 Medical Officer of Health Report for Banffshire: *By comparison with the rest of Scotland, the state of health in Banffshire was judged to be slightly better than average. Preventable diseases, however, represented a considerable proportion of deaths, with respiratory illness being responsible for 23% of those recorded for 1891. The primary cause was considered to be damp housing conditions, combined with inadequate ventilation and overcrowding. Lack of clean water and non-existent sewage arrangements were also recognised as having an adverse effect on public health generally.* This was one of the projects carried out while following a course on local government archives.
