Hi Wendy Have you downloaded the Scotland's People images of the 1801 marriage and of Helen's birth/christening entry in the St Nicholas OPR? Some entries in that OPR were very informative indeed and there just may be some clues there. It's worth a punt!! Hi Ray, Thank you very much for the quick response. Yes I have both Helen's birth image and James' marriage image. The birth record shows her parents as James STEWART and Jane SIM and the marriage record only has Jane's father as John SIM no mention of the other parents. Helen's death certificate gives Parent's as James STEWART and Ann SIM but as the informant was a grandson it is possible that he did not know his grandmothers first name. The only mention of occupations is that in 1805, at Helen's birth, her father was a labourer. Not much to go on.
