However, "missing" may not mean not present! If you are searching an index, the person you seek may be indexed under a misread name. I was looking for a lawyer in Wick, a local worthy, who had to be present in a particular census, but the index did not reveal him. As I knew his place of residence, I went through the microfilm, and he was there - the handwriting of the enumerator was apalling, and the name wrongly indexed. Gordon.
