    3. I have several instances where the marriage record does not show the parents names. I wish they did! I have seen this both on the OPRs and online OPRs at Scotland's People. It is a great site but not all records have everything you wish they did! 3. You have my sympathy, Laura, truly. I guess I've just been lucky with the ones I have gotten from SP. You see, there's still things to be thankful for when someone reminds you they had no luck. So it goes. Very few OPRs record any more than the bride's and groom's names and a date. Even the date doesn't guarantee that they actually got married as it often only notes the date of the Banns being called and/or pledges being assigned. Most do record if one of the couple is from a different parish by naming it. However it is rare for a habitation address to be given. Some records do say "... and were married" possibly with a date of the actual marriage. One or two parishes give far more detail for certain periods when the current Minister and his scribe got into verbosity or some local big-wigs attended. We have a record in Aberdeen St Nicholas where the parents and various notables attending were all named but this is fairly exceptional. Unfortunately, Scotland's People can't add information that isn't on the original record. It was only after 1855 and statutory registration that the additional detail was recorded. -- Best wishes Ray ********************************************************** >From Ray Hennessy Forenames website: www.whatsinaname.net Preferred Email address: ray@whatsinaname.net Hints for Scotland's People at http://bit.ly/WIAN-SCP **********************************************************
