Hi: Having trouble tracking down where some of my ancestors are buried. They lived, and died in Strichen, but, I can only find one family there. So where would they be buried if NOT in Strichen. And suggestions, Gavin???? I am looking at prior to 1924 Yes, I know look up the death certificate but for one relative there doesn't seem to be one on Scotland's People. Thanks :sjl

And suggestions, > Gavin???? As you can check at: http://www.abdnet.co.uk/burialgrounds/ there are two burial grounds in the parish of Strichen, the original kirkyard and the new cemetery next door. Burial records for the cemetery start in 1908 (which is probably the year it opened for business) but it is quite likely that interments continued in parallel in the two burial grounds for some time thereafter. I am not quite clear what you mean when you say that you can "only find one family there", because you don't tell us where you have looked! There is an unpublished (and probably incomplete) set of Memorial Inscriptions for Strichen held by ANESFHS, but that covers only the kirkyard - and not all burials were commemorated on a stone. If your ancestors were buried in the cemetery, then they should appear in the burial records. You will find the contact details for an enquiry about them on the "Links" section of the above website. And, of course, even if they died in Strichen, they were not necessarily buried there. My grandparents and many of their siblings had migrated into the City of Aberdeen or to distant parts of the world before the start of the First World War, but various of them chose to be buried - or were at least commemorated - at the family lair in their home parish of St Fergus well into the 20th century. > > I am looking at prior to 1924 > > Yes, I know look up the death certificate but for one relative there > doesn't seem to be one on Scotland's People.
