    3. Kathleen - we've run across each other before concerning families in the area around Beckwith Twp. I thought I'd check my DUFFs and see if there was anything to help this question. Most of my DUFFs are in PEI, but I do have one in Beckwith: Elexey DUFF (1837-1899) m. Finlay McEWEN (1836-1920) 1. Hugh m. Ammie ALLEN 2. Margaret Ann m. John Herbert FERGUSON 3. Catherine Delia 4. Miny 5. William Henderson m. Ada Frances KEARNEY I am not directly connected to this line of McEWEN or DUFF, but Finlay McEWEN's first cousin Jannet m. Peter DEWAR (my 3rd great granduncle) and I am following the DEWAR line. The McEWENs were from Balquhidder, Perthshire and I do not know about Ms DUFFs origins. A great influx from Perthshire starting 1818, but not too many Aberdonians in that region at that time so far as I know Regards - Glen C. In 1843, William Duff from Perthshire emigrated to Canada with his wife, eight children, a children's governess and his unmarried sister, Janet. William's family lived with James until William built his own house next door on the same concession road. I searched for any trace of the sister, Janet, in Canada without success. I then assumed she had died on board - that is until this week. Our family have a webpage and a guest book. We received a message in the guest book from a man who wondered if he was related to us. He has a couple of letters written by James' son, David, to his uncle David in Scotland. The letter mentions that his mother Jane, came to Canada at the same time as William Duff's family. The letters contain a lot of information relevant to both families. The 1851 and 1861 Canadian census list Jane, his mother, residing with him and his family. The 1841 Scottish census list Janet as unmarried and living in a household other than Duff. Both these Duff families intermarry with a family of Rattrays. Documents say Jane died in 1862. Nothing is found on Janet. Is it possible that Jane and Janet are the same person? I hope this is clear. thank you for any help. Kathleen
