Hi Greg I live in Ottawa Ontario Canada and my father came to Canada as a boy from Edinburgh Scotland. The family spent several generations in Stonehaven Kincardinshire (Fetteresso and Dunnottar parishes) My great grandfather was James Lumsden (shoemaker) born in the northeast ~1820. His father William (and James) lived in Stonehaven from ~1824 to 1851+ In the census William was listed as a chelsea pensioner and shoemaker born in Gamrie ~1781 plus or minus. He had a son William born in 1809 in Gamrie with Ann Callum. They were married in Gamrie in 1816. Ann and William had a third son Alexander born in Stonehaven in 1824. I can find no further records on the fate of William 1809 or Alexander 1824. There is a Gamrie Banffshire birth of William Lumsden in 12 May 1782 to Jeremiah Lumsden (shoemaker) and Mary Robertson. Jeremiah and Mary also had Katherine 1771, Jeremiah 1772, Alexander 1775, Margaret 1777, and Robert 1780. The Attachment to this family is reasonable but NOT proven. There is another William Lumsden in the LDS records born in this timeframe but the location was Banff. I have been working a lot lately on this issue but so far it is a work in progress. I have just joined the ANESFHS but I do not have a member yet. What is your Gamrie Banffshire Lumsden connection and when ?
