I have considered that George DICK , who shows 1841 with wife Elspet, may connect to my family. Free census 1851 George Dick born Monquhitter , age 50 yrs., an Ag. Lab. . Wife Elspet age 50 yrs., a Stocking Knitter, born Turriff. Son Alexander unmarried , age 24 yrs., born Turriff. IGI has George DICK & Elspet BRUCE, married in Turriff Nov 1820. 1861 Census ( Ancestry ), has a leap in age for George as age 73 yrs., Elspet age 61 , & Daughters Sophia age 33 yrs., Harriett age 26 yrs , both unmarried, Grandchildren Martha CRAIK age 8yrs., James JOHNSTONE age 2 yrs. Do they belong to anyone out there in Research Land ? My DICK family, originally from Banffshire, seemed to be the only lot in Monquhitter in my early & mid 1800's research, s o, where did this George come from ?. George was a family name , with many lines having the name. Mary New Zealand
I too had questioned whether George could be one of ours - ie a brother for my very illusive John Dick who was living in Monquhitter in the early 1800's with his wife Ann Gill. So I checked him out. His 1865 death cert has him as a pauper & ex ag lab & widow of Elspet Bruce. His parents are given as William Dick & Barbara Lawrence, & the death was registered by Alexander J Dick - brother. William & Barbara married in Alvah Banff 25 Oct 1795. Martha Craik was according to the IGI Turriff register the dau of William Craik & Sophia Dick. I think that the Alexander J Dick was married to Ann Skinner So still no nearer knowing if he is connected to my Dicks! Hope that helps you Susan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Legarth" <legarthm@levin.pl.net> To: <anesfhs-members@yahoogroups.com> Cc: <aberdeen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 09, 2010 6:56 AM Subject: [ABERDEEN] DICK , BRUCE, CRAIK, JOHNSTONE >I have considered that George DICK , who shows 1841 with wife Elspet, may > connect to my family. > > Free census 1851 George Dick born Monquhitter , age 50 yrs., an Ag.
