Hi Ed What was Alexander BUCHAN's occupation in 1891? I wonder if he was a fisherman and may have been at sea in 1881. Or maybe he has had his name misspelt in 1881. It is odd that he isn't there! What was his address when he married [if you have his MC]? That may give a clue. All very intriguing. Ray, Alexander Buchan was described as a "chemical works stillman" in the 1891 census, and as a "marine engineer" in the 1901 census. Both could have required some technical training that could have taken him away from Aberdeen in the late 1870s-1880s. His mother Janet WILLOX was living with them in 1901. I don't have his marriage certificate.
