    3. Hi All, I am hoping some one maybe able to help me with this elusive ancestor of mine According to my Grt Grt GrandFather James Angus when he married Jane Forbes in 1858 it has that His father was Forbes Angus a crofter and his Mother was Elizabeth nee Lamb and that she was deceased. However according to the 1861 Census there is Elizabeth Angus head a crofter James Angus 24 Jane Angus 24 Jane Angus 1 Forbes Angus 2 I automatically assumed that this Elizabeth was James Motherpeople have searched for me as have I and there is no marriage between a Forbes Angus and Elizabeth Lamb? Also I cant read where James came from but it looks like Colliehill Parish of Bo....... Hope some one can shed some light on this Elizabeth for me Regards Marilyn Australia

Curiously James is described as a Lodger on the 1861 census rather than son. Have you looked at the actual census image to see if there are any clues? Have you looked for a baptism for a James LAMB? Its possible the parents were not married and its certainly not unusual for a person to adopt their reputed fathers surname? Also have you found James in any other census than 1861 to confirm his birth location (and age) as St Nicholas, Aberdeen? Andy
